An A-36 steel bolt (AB) is used to snugly clamp a 6061-T6 aluminum sleeve
between two rigid platens E and F, as shown below. The bolt has a solid, circular cross section
with a diameter d = 61 mm and a thread pitch
of 1 mm. The sleeve has a hollow circular
cross section with an outer diameter do 250
mm and a wall thickness tw = 15 mm. The
nut is then tightened 34 of a turn, which
induces stresses in both the bolt and the
sleeve. Assume Es = 200 GPa for steel and
Ea 68.9 GPa for aluminum.
