The cAMP stands for cyclic 3’, 5’-adenosine monophosphate. It is a comparatively small and water-soluble molecule that is a derivative of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). The enzyme adenylyl cyclase is responsible for the conversion of ATP to cAMP. The cAMP molecules pass through the cytoplasm and lead to the activation of the protein kinases, which attach a phosphate group to the target proteins.
