Isomerism: Two chemical compounds are said to be isomers if they have same number and kind of atoms but different only in their orientation that is structural arrangements.
- Structural or Constitutional isomers: Have same molecular formula but different bonding arrangements of atoms. It is further classified as Linkage and Ionization isomers.
- Stereoisomers: Differ in their spatial arrangement of atoms.
Linkage isomers: The metal bond to ligand via either of two different donor atoms present in ligand. E.g.
Ionization isomers: Two compounds which have only difference in their anion bonded to the metal are said to be ionization isomers. E.g.
