Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The possible isomers for given octahedral complex
Concept Introduction:
Isomerism: Two chemical compounds are said to be isomers if they have same number and kind of atoms but different only in their orientation that is structural arrangements.
- Structural or Constitutional isomers: Have same molecular formula but different bonding arrangements of atoms. It is further classified as Linkage and Ionization isomers.
- Stereoisomers: Differ in their spatial arrangement of atoms.
Linkage isomers: The metal bond to ligand via either of two different donor atoms present in ligand. E.g.
There are different types of isomerism in which geometric is of one type where the rotation around the atom is restricted like in cis-trans configuration. This is also refereed as cis-trans isomerism.
Diastereoisomers: The stereo isomers of one compound which are not mirror images with each other are referred as diastereoisomers.
