Trump is a name with a lot of history and a lot of connotation that only continues to grow as Donald Trump runs his presidential campaign. With all the backing that he proclaims, Trump still shows alarming qualities for a man that could be rising to power. He shows inconsistency which alludes to a weakness of character that makes him a poor presidential candidate. He is widely known for his aggressive arrogant ideas, which appeals to come people, but major concern arises from Trump being unable to defend his own ideas and, when he is questioned about them, he turns tail and flip-flops his opinions. Before his presidential campaign Trump admitted that he was “pro-choice” but “hated the concept of abortion,” whereas now he is willing to make abortion illegal if voted into office (Berenson; “Abortion and 10 Other”). At one point Trump said that he was going to punish women for getting an abortion, which would mean that women who medically required an abortion could be legally punished for it (Vitali). Trump began advocating anti-abortion laws only after he was announced as a republican candidate which makes his opinion seem much less genuine and more strategical. Strategy is an important aspect in campaigning for a politician, but it crosses the line when one such as Trump begins to change his whole perspective on life to appeal to voters. Being president is about protecting lives and caring for your delegates, it is not just a race for numbers at the polls. Trump, with his present views on abortion, plans to defund the organization Planned Parenthood simply because they perform abortions. Planned Parenthood does so much more than just abortion, and Trump knows that, but he wants to take away all the amazing things they do for women because of the one issue as if he is highly convicted (Krieg). The whole issue of pro-life and pro-choice is not truly about abortion for Trump. He changes his position to fall into accord with the Republican Party and to gain supporters, but for the rest of the world, it is about protecting lives. Regardless of what side, the issue is about saving lives and protecting human rights. Trump appears to be apathetic toward any of that in the way that he flip-flops between the two sides.
