Chapter 19, Problem 19.125CHP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The benefit and limitation of using metallic Gallium in thermometer should be explained.

Concept Introduction:

Group 3A, boron family, in this group contain a metalloid, boron and (Al,Ga,In,Tl) are metals.  All elements have three valence electrons in outer most shell.

The elements of group 3A boron, aluminium, gallium, indium and thallium are the first of the p-block elements and have the valence electronic configuration ns2np1.

The 3A boron family except for boron, which is a metalloid (or) semimetal the group 3A elements are silvery metals and good conductors of electricity.  Aluminium is the most important element of this group because it is use in making aircraft, electrical transmission lines, cooking utensils, sodacans and numerous other commercial products.
