MAKE AN OPENING STATEMENT ABOUT THIS:
Boss, this is the report we will submit to Mr. Puno next week. You asked me to leave the opening statement to you. So here is the rest…
Our big need is to improve interviewing skills. This should include questioning techniques for new hires and for grievance hearings. Good listening habits apply too. So do counselling techniques to make others comfortable so they will tell what is really bothering them. If there’s anything supervisors can do to prepare themselves for interviews or hearings, that should be included too.
We could use Project Control training for ourselves and supervisors. None of us really knows PERT or how to set critical paths. Any visual charting and monitoring method would be a big help.
Several supervisors have expressed a need for a basic college level economics course. They want down-to-earth study of supply and demand, inflation patterns and trending.
Nearly 45% of our local supervisors want a course in public speaking. The course conducted by Toastmasters was specifically recommended.

One way to improve the interview process is for HR staff to keep the interview structured, standardized, and focused on accomplishing a small number of goals. Moreover, using situational interviews—where applicants are confronted with specific issues, questions, or problems that are likely to arise on the job—have provided pertinent information about the way an applicant may handle the job he or she is applying to fill. In the following case, a local small business is overwhelmed by responses to a job posting and asks an HR consultant to assist in the selection process.
