The death penalty is a very controversial topic in the United States and throughout the world. There was a time period were the death penalty was banned for about four years in 1972-1976. Many feel that the death penalty is justice because it is retribution toward criminals who have committed heinous crimes. It is irrational to think that the death penalty – a remote threat at best – will avert murders committed in drug turf wars or by street-level dealers” (Bedau). This shows that the death penalty is not stopping murders from occurring. The introduction to the death penalty conducted a survey were top criminologists stated that the death penalty does not deter homicide rates (Introduction). “For 2009, the average Murder Rate of Death Penalty States was 4.9 [Murder rates by the 100,000], while the average Murder Rate of States without the Death Penalty was 2.8” (Introduction). Not only does the death penalty not deter crime but it is also very expensive. The death penalty costs so much because of the appeal process. The appeal process is a very long and expensive process that can go on forever and costs the government millions. Many assume that abolishing the death penalty is wrong because it becomes unfair to the taxpayers because they think the cost is less than that of life in prison without parole. However life in prison is less expensive than the death penalty (Bedau). The death penalty is actually three times more than keeping a prisoner in prison for life without parole (Messerli). Death penalty trials are costly as well. “[S]tudies estimate that death penalty trials cost $1

The eighth amendment is designed to protect us from cruel and unusual punishment. Conservation of the United States Constitution, and all moral ideologies have been set aside. An old form of barbaric punishment and the saying "eye for an eye" is still being widely accepted by Americans today. The old form of barbaric punishment is capital punishment. Death penalty, noun, the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of the capital crime. Issues with the death penalty program is said to be the false accusation, cost, and that the program itself should not have the option to chose whether or not to take someone else’s life. Researchers argue that the death penalty should not be able to make these choices because here have been innocent released from death row, millions of dollars going down the drain just to execute someone, and statistics state with the death penalty, crime doesn’t deter. The capital punishment has gone through daily confliction and many states in the U.S. are divided on how to approach the issue without repressing the idea of capital punishment.
A second reason why is the death penalty should be used is, it cost less than life in prison, stating the death penalty cost “at least $2 million a case.” Whereas life without parole will cost “$1.2 million-$3.6 million” which is more than equal a death sentence. In a sense keeping a person in jail for life is worst “because most of the time he will appeal just as much as many costs as a convict under the death sentence.” (Death Penalty Cost, 2017). Not only the death sentence is cost-effective but is better off than keeping the convict in jail for life.
The death penalty began as far as the seventeenth-eighteenth century B.C. It was followed by the Romans.

The death penalty is something about which many people do not have a clear opinion. It is considered to be the punishment of execution, administered to someone convicted of a capital crime. Many people support the death penalty, while others wish for the death penalty to be abolished. My personal opinion on the death penalty is that it should be administered only in cases of certain crimes such as: serial murder, serial rape, and terrorism.
The death penalty, also known as capital punishment is a legal procedure in which a state executes a person for crimes he/she has committed. This punishment has been implemented by many states, and is normally used for atrocious crimes, especially murder. It is also used on crimes against the state such as treason, crimes against humanity, espionage, and violent crimes while other states use it as part of military justice. There are mixed reactions on capital punishment depending on one’s faith, and the state they come from. In my view, I am not in favor of death penalty, as I strongly believe that, death penalty is unacceptable and an inhumane practice for it denies one the right to live. Death penalty does not deter crime, it is an act
