I believe our group work is going well. We haven’t had many meetings concerning bringing all the work together, but people have been working had individually as noted in the annotated bibliography. One complaint is that in the agreement we said that the annotated bibliography would be completed by the Sunday before the due date, when in actuality two members did not add their work to the group until the day the assignment was due. However, this is minor in the larger scheme since it was completed and submitted on time. We have made plans to come together next week to work on the project together and how and where everyone’s contribution will be placed. Overall I don’t have much to complain about as communication and work ethic are good. I
In this paper I will describe and analyze my experience working in a group situation, writing a paper on the movie 12 Angry Men. I will address therapeutic communication techniques used in our group situation. I will address any conflicts that arose in our group. Utilizing Tuckman’s group process theory, I will also address the effectiveness of our group process.

From my experience, one situation I can think of where the “groupthink” phenomenon could be applied happened when I used to be a scribe/scribe trainer. Our leads had just hired a new group of scribes and prior to starting on the floor the trainees needed to complete a classroom training course covering medical terminology, understanding of the EMR template and then pass an examination. After that then they were able to start training shifts on the floor with an experienced scribe “shadowing” them. The first time scribing on the floor can be really daunting because some providers work very fast and they can be very particular (quality/length of HPI, what& where to document certain findings) which as a newbie you wouldn’t know unless you worked
Wheelan and her associates came up with a classification system referred to as Group Development Observation System (GDOS) to categorize the verbal interactions among group members. The eight Group Development Observation System categories include;
Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.
Making Small Groups Work by Henry Cloud and John Townsend is a book on how to make small groups work. This, not an average small group book it really tells you has a leader how to make it work. With the two authors being psychologists it more of how people react in groups and setting that make this book so different. They provide leader of small groups with valuable leadership and information on how to help their groups to grow in three spiritually, emotionally and relationally. During the interview on September 12th, the student discussed times and dates in which she would volunteer and discussed activities she would perform. It was expected that the student would help paint rocks for a luncheon to thank the sponsors who helped the Hurricane Matthew survivors that is coming up next month. The student was told how to dress when she comes in for her hours and chose to come in two Monday’s from 12p.m. to 3p.m. as well as Tuesday and Thursday from 1p.m. to 4p.m.
On Monday, March 2nd from 4:00pm – 6:00pm I observed a client in the Nazareth College OT Clinic in Carrol Hall. The client that I observed this week is the same client that I have observed in the previous weeks. The client is a fourteen year old female with no current diagnosis. The client has difficulties with muscle tone and strength in her arms and possibly her legs and this is effecting her everyday life. In the evaluation, her mother expressed that she wanted her daughter to work on brushing her hair. Due to the low muscle tone and strength in the client’s arms, she cannot lift her arm up for more than a few seconds before it is fatigued. The client is small for her age and also speaks very quietly. During her appointment the senior OT students played some floor games with the
We’ve all been in that situation where you’re assigned to do group work with a person that’s difficult to work with, and you’re stuck trying your best to complete the work. Many teachers assign group work as a way of learning well with others and expect good cooperation and completed work on time, but an uncooperative member can have an inferior effect on the entire group. In my opinion, teachers should not give group work, for it can have a detrimental effect on everybody. Most can agree that group work causes many disagreements among group members as well as not getting along, everybody get the same grade regardless of the effort put in, and most people would work much better individually. When people work in groups, most are prone to
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
TBL is a structured form of small-group learning that emphasizes student preparation out of class and application of knowledge in class. Students are organized strategically into diverse teams of 5-7 students that work together throughout the class. Before each unit or module of the course, students prepare by reading prior to class. Therefore, in comparison to groups involved in informal small-group work and collaborative learning, a team is characterized by a high level of individual commitment to the welfare of the team in addition to a high level of trust among team members. In order to develop an effective learning team, members spend time in databases and the worldwide web, and interact both synchronously in a chat discussion
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb’s learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin’s (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) ‘is a forum of response to the learner to experience’(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that ‘such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing “swift trust”’ (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.
Working in a group can be very difficult at times. Different people with different views may not always agree which one another. Throughout the various task I played the communicator. I made sure everyone was on track on what we wanted to do. I also made sure people was okay and happy in the role they was playing in the group. My group worked together in collecting ideas from one another and making it into one.
I am Zeeshan Ali; I am working as a Computer teacher for Classes VI-X-M in Canal Side Boys Campus. I have done Masters in Computer Science (MCS) from Punjab University College of Information and Technology (PUCIT) Lahore. The students are the main focus of every teacher and our entire teaching efforts circle round our students to achieve the set targets. This assignment will aim to define what group work is, outline the history of group work, its advantages and disadvantages and the use of group for individuals suffering from ill mental health. The second part of this assignment will be a reflection that will outline the authors personal experience of participating in a group in the university setting and the challenges and growths associated with that. Human beings naturally form groups and are shaped by them. Usually beginning in the microcosm of the family and extending to larger societal and cultural groups.
