Reflection On Group Work

I believe our group work is going well. We haven’t had many meetings concerning bringing all the work together, but people have been working had individually as noted in the annotated bibliography. One complaint is that in the agreement we said that the annotated bibliography would be completed by the Sunday before the due date, when in actuality two members did not add their work to the group until the day the assignment was due. However, this is minor in the larger scheme since it was completed and submitted on time. We have made plans to come together next week to work on the project together and how and where everyone’s contribution will be placed. Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.

I attended the University of Pittsburgh Student Government Board (SGB) meeting on November 10, 2015, to see first-hand how task oriented groups function. There was a presentation after the SGB meeting about the University Strategic Plan, soliciting suggestions for the implementation phase of the plan.

I actively participated in the assignment throughout the whole process. After plenty of research on literature reviews, I devoted to extract from the former two parts and then produced the suggestions for future research related to the audit reporting model. I joined every discussion and came up with possible solutions to the problems with the topic. I followed the schedule to present my part punctually so that other group member could continue to revise the research. During the assignment period, I sometimes insisted in my own opinion, which is not appropriate for group work. Fortunately, I was persuaded through communication and change my incorrect views.

When I was in a group for group work I was the only one who did any work. All the other people in the group got a grade that they didn't earn. This ends happening in almost every group. That proves that group work is not effective in school because there is always someone who does all the work, you could get put with people you don't like, and there is always people talking.

My concept of what a group consist of is a story that needs to be told and heard from many people with similar issues or problems. The group is a tool to help each member to gain some insight on how they can change or make a difference in their lives for the future. I feel that a group is a place where new relationships can develop and to find self again.

When I have to work in a team, I try to reach success with others participants in assigned activities. I do not take the role of leader or follower. I consider myself just another participator, but always thinking about doing everything right and clean. I have always had in mind that teamwork are all those actions and activities that are carried out collectively. In order for there to be an excellent group work, I think is necessary is that the actions are developed collectively. This means that to carry out group work, the existence of an entertainer or coordination is not necessary. The collective performance of an action is sufficient, within the framework of mutual interaction.

Reflecting upon individuals’ experience with team projects this semester is crucial for students to develop teamwork and collaboration skills, effective communications, conflict resolution and improve performance for future projects. This paper reflects on the role that I played in this semesters’ student team project, as well as explaining what I learned about teamwork and collaboration. I am overall impressed by my teams’ extraordinary commitment and performance; though they could still be room for improvement in our communication and organization skills.

Team work is at the nucleus of clinical practice in radiography. It is the core structure that allows the efficient flow of work whilst still providing patient-centred care. There must be an understanding that a team is not merely a group of people working in proximity to each other; but it is a group of people who use the division of labour and an apprehension of each other’s role in the team to work in a rational and proficient manner. This essay will reflect on the team building I participated in and its correlation to my Belbin personality team roles. I will also explore the value of this in practice, in terms of patient centred care and legislation. Using other personality questionnaires, I will consider Belbin’s ability to reflect my own roles and question if another method would be more accurate in doing this.
