Concept introduction:
Cost Volume Profit (CVP) Analysis:
The Cost Volume Profit analysis is the analysis of the relation between cost, volume, and profit of a product. It analyzes the cost and profits at the different level of production, in order to determine the breakeven point and required the level of sales to earn the desired profit.
Contribution margin means the margin that is left with the company after recovering variable cost out of revenue earned by selling smart phones. The formula for contribution margin is as follows:
Contribution margin = Sales - Variable cost.
Similarly contribution margin ratio = Contribution/sales
Breakeven Point:
The Breakeven point is the level of sales at which the net profit is nil. It can be explained as a situation where the business is generating a sale that is equal to the expenses incurred and hence no

- You are selling a new line of T-shirts on the boardwalk. The selling price will be $25 per shirt The labor cost is $5 per shirt. Additionally, the cost of materials will be $10 per shirt. The administrative costs of operating the company are estimated to be $60,000 annually, and the sales and marketing expenses are $20,000 a year. What is the break-even in units and BEP in dollars? Formulas: Contribution Margin = Unit Selling Price-Unit Variable Cost Profit - Total Revenue - Total Cost or Profit - Quantity Sold (Selling Price per unit - Variable Cost per unit) - Fixed Cost Fixed Cost Break-even (quantity) = Unit Selling Price - Unit Variable Cost Break-even ($) = Break-even (quantity). The fixed cost is $25,000 per annum with current demand at 700 tables per annum. Each table has a direct material cost of $65 and direct labour cost of $83. Required: A. I) what is profit based on the current demand? i) How many tables should be sold to get a profit of $5,000? A. The organization is considering two alternative proposals. i. Reducing selling price by 15% which is expected to increase demand by 10% ii. Increase selling price by 5% which is expected to reduce demand by 10% What will be the profits or loss under each alternative proposal?arrow_forwardHawk Homes, Inc., makes one type of birdhouse that it sells for $29.40 each. Its variable cost is $13.20 per house, and its fixed costs total $14,013.00 per year. Hawk currently has the capacity to produce up to 2,700 birdhouses per year, so its relevant range is 0 to 2,700 houses. Required:1. Prepare a contribution margin income statement for Hawk assuming it sells 1,280 birdhouses this year. 2. Without any calculations, determine Hawk’s total contribution margin if the company breaks even. 3. Calculate Hawk’s contribution margin per unit and its contribution margin ratio. 4. Calculate Hawk’s break-even point in number of units and in sales revenue. 5. Suppose Hawk wants to earn $25,000 this year. Determine how many birdhouses it must sell to generate this amount of profit.arrow_forward
- Planck, the new owner of the vehicle accessory shop, is considering buying sets of winter tyres for $ 299 per set and selling each set at $ 520. Fixed costs related to this operation amount to $ 3250 per month. It is expected that 18 sets per month could be sold. How much profit will Planck make each month? Round to the nearest one. Hint: use the contribution margin approach.arrow_forward1. ABC Taxi has an average fixed cost of $8,000 a year for each car. Each mile driven has variable cost $.40 and collect fares of $.60. How many miles a year does each car have to travel before making profit? a. ABC company is contemplating adding a new line of product, which will require leasing new equipment for a monthly payment of $12,000. Variable costs would be $15.00 per product, and selling price per product is $40. What would be profit or loss if business sell 600 of these products? b. If 800 quantity of products can be sold, and a profit target is $10,000, what price should be charged for each product?arrow_forwardaverage variable cost (cost price) is SAR 9. Thus, every time the store sells a toy car it has SAR A Toy store sells remote control car. The average selling price is SAR 15 and the o remaining after it pays the manufacturer. This SAR 6 is referred to as the unit contribution. The fixed costs of operating the store (its operating expenses) are SAR 100,000 per year. If the total sales units are 20,000. Prepare the Income statement in contribution margin a. format. b. The fixed costs of operating the store (its operating expenses) are SAR100, 000 per year. Find Break-even in units? - Consider the following: A factory can produce 150,000 units of a good/year at a cost of $100/unit may produce the good for 2 years Retail price is initially $500/unit, but will either increase or decrease by $100 during year 1, and then subsequently increase or decrease by $200 during year 2. Each year, the increase or decrease is equally likely Fixed costs of running the factory are $50M per year if the factory is implemented (not including rent) Rent is $10M, whether or not the factory is set-up We will assume risk neutrality and a 10% cost of capital For simplicity, we will assume that there is no initial (year 0) cashflow associated with the factory The production technology of the factory allows for flexible starting (but not stopping). This means that in year 1, the factory may be operated or not. If the factory is operational in year 1, it will also be operational in year 2. If the factory is not operational in year 1, then it may either be operated or not in year 2. What is…arrow_forwardMicroCam produces a single product.
