Summary Introduction

Introduction: A metabolic pathway is defined as a series of enzymatic reactions that build, rearrange, or break down organic substances and they may be cyclic or linear. Feedback inhibition actively regulates some metabolic pathways. Energy harvested by the cells in these pathways is stored in the electrons that are carried by coenzymes (organic cofactors). In a cell, the lipid bilayers are selectively permeable, thereby permitting water, hydrophobic molecules, and gases. The diffusion of water across the lipid bilayer is called osmosis. Glucose cannot diffuse directly through a lipid bilayer, and hence, it is transported through glucose transporters.
