(2005) Simply put, marketing is the process by which businesses assess the needs and desires of consumers in order to provide products and/or services to meet those needs in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Truly effective marketers do market research in an effort to understand their target market and create marketing strategies based on the characterization of those in the target area.

Marketing is a very unique process that enables limitless methods or variations for an entity to appeal to a particular target market as well as to deter from a particular market. Marketing is an important tool for any business. It is how a company makes their product known to the public. Without marketing, the consumers will either not know that the product even exists or will not know all the applications of the product; who makes it, what it is and what it is made from, when came on the market, where it can be purchased, how it can help the consumer and why the consumer should even purchase the product in the first place. According to Tom Ash, Marketing is the process whereby demands for products, services and ideas are anticipated, managed and satisfied (2011).

In my opinion, I believe marketing is knowing what the consumer wants and figuring out how you are going to get the product to them. In addition, I believe marketing involves researching to understand the needs of the customer. Business owners need to be successful at marketing or their business will fail if they cannot make a name for themselves. In 2009, Kermit Pattison wrote an article for the New York Times, discussing the importance of small businesses getting involved on Facebook. As I reflect back over these last five weeks I now have a clearer view of marketing and how it affects not just the consumers of the world and the companies with their marketing managers, but how it affects me. Yes, I am a consumer who clips coupons, budgets my finances, and looks for sale items and this marketing class has taught me that marketing is more than selling or advertising. Marketing managers have a difficult job, as marketing involves identifying, meeting and satisfying the needs of customers or clients with goods and or services. Coming up with different strategies and marketing mixes is challenging because we live in a changing world with people who needs and financial situations are different. Yet still marketing engulfs every part of our daily lives. From what type of breakfast we eat, to where we shop, and even in our work environment. As I examine marketing, I will blend aspect to my career path as I make myself marketable for the future and aid my employer in the growth and survival in the economy.

But the aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customers so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself. Ideally, marketing should result in a customer who is ready to buy. All that should be needed then is to make the product or service available.” (Peter Drucker, Marketing Management, Philip Kotler).

Marketing is the all-embracing function that links the business with customer needs and wants in order to get the right product to the right place at the right time. It is the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising. Arby’s, for example, has changed in a revolutionary way. Their marketing strategy has changed which impacted the human resource management department and the financial structure of the business.

Marketing its used by most business.  Marketing is a process where a business finds the way to transmit a message to its consumers.  The message every business wants their consumers to know is why they should choose their service or products instead of those of the competitors.  Marketing it’s not just one thing, marketing is advertising, customer service, what they hear or see about the business, what they get from choosing you.  People who are in charge of marketing should really be careful in the words they use or the way they will be trying to get consumers.  With just one word or a doubtful action it could be enough to loose consumers.

For the last two years, Central Store has been working with SEE-LA to improve its fresh produce, promotion of healthier foods and its customer service. The store has received government grants to purchase equipment to meet their needs. For example, the store now has a compact display refrigerator to place fresh fruits and vegetables cups and other premade healthy food options. Furthermore, the store has also been given a bigger produce display refrigerator to accommodate the needs of the community.
