The crusades were a series of brutal medieval wars that began in 1095 and ended in1496. Fought in the high middle ages between the Christians and the Muslims. There were eight crusades over all, the first crusade being mainly spilt into two parts, the official crusades and the peasant crusade or better known as the people crusade. With only lasting a few years, both the peasants and official crusades were quite similar and different in their own ways.
The Crusades, a series of wars, are an extremely important part of history in the 12th century, occurring during the Middle Ages. The Middle East or the Holy Land was always a place that Christians traveled to to make pilgrimages. The Seljuk Turks eventually took control of Jerusalem and all Christians were not allowed in the Holy City. As the Turks power grew, they threatened to take over the Byzantine Empire and Constantinople. The Byzantine Emperor, Alexius I, asked Pope Urban II for help and Pope agreed, hoping to strengthen his own power. He He united the Christians in Europe and In 1095, Pope Urban II waged waged war against muslims in order to “reclaim the holy land.”
Going against modern day religious beliefs, in 1095AD the Christians went to war to claim the holy city of Jerusalem, massacring the Muslims in a bloody attempt to worship their God. Pope Urban II’s speech at Clermont inspired by claims made by the Byzantium Emperor encouraged the Christians to partake in the First Crusade in an attempt to liberate Jerusalem. The religious and economic factors were the most relevant to cause this crusade, with some influence from desired political gain and little from social factors unrelated to religion. The immediate consequences were positive for the Christians and negative for the Muslims, but the First Crusade launched an ongoing conflict between the Christians and Muslims which had positive and negative consequences for both sides. There are a number of relevant modern sources which examine the causes and consequences of the First Crusade, but, while there are many medieval sources, they do not explicitly discuss the causes and consequences of the war. In order to fully comprehend the First Crusade, it is necessary to analyse the religious, economic, and political factors, as well as the short-term, long-term, and modern consequences.
The First Crusade took place from 1096 to 1099. When the Byzantine army was defeated by the Seljuk Turks at the battle of Manzikirt, this created an outburst of chaos and civil war within themselves. When Alexius Comnemus took the throne, she decided to send Pope Urban II a letter asking for help. Pope Urban made a speech declaring the call for a Crusade to fight against the Seljuk Turks. Urban asked Christians to join forces to work to free the Holy Land from Muslim invaders.
This crusade is the one and only unofficial crusade of the nine. It got its name because of it’s a lack of orderliness and military experience. Pope urban the second call the apon those believers to stand up against the Muslim Turks, to take back the holy land. Well he wasn’t expecting for the help he received to be ordinary men who had almost no fighting experience. The Europeans were bothered by this, But they were sure of their victory because God would be on their side. Crusade launched in the year 1096, April to October. The Crusaders had surrendered to the Muslim forces in their six months. They return home defeated and accomplish. This was the start of a trend that would last for the next 195 years.
The crusades is a very important historical event that has impacted western civilization in many ways. Religion and economy were big influences in the crusades because the Pope promised wealth to those who went and fought in the crusades and because the Pope promised that anyone who fought in the crusades would be forgiven of all their sins. But those reasons are not the most important reason why the crusades happened. The most significant reason is area because Europe was too crowded and because the land they were fighting for was holy.
For example, Document 4 states, “Moreover, the assault of one Christian people on another… made the split between the Greek and Latin churches permanent.” The assault the crusaders carried out against the Greek Church, also called the East Orthodox Church, furthermore divided the Catholic and East Christian churches, thus causing a permanent split between the two. By permanently isolating themselves from the East Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholics lost one of their greatest allies in the Holy War which made their attempts to overthrow the Muslims in Jerusalem significantly weaker. Also, according to Document 6, the attack on the East Orthodox Church made crusading less appealing to the Europeans. Since fewer Europeans wanted to join the Crusader’s armies, the amount of available Crusaders dropped, and this caused the Catholic forces to be less prepared for the following five Crusades. In conclusion, the 4th crusade negatively affected the West by creating a forever lasting split between the East Christian and the Catholic along by making crusading less appealing the European

First Crusade was one of the first attempts to capture the Holy Land which was successful. The First Crusade was a military expedition undertaken by Christian the Holy Land from the Muslims. But the main question is how and why were the Christian Crusaders motivated to fight in the war, was is it to do with political reason such gaining money, power, papacy.
Document 1 states that They left a bitter legacy of religious hatred behind them. This is important because this it tells you why the Crusades we're hated.Document 4 states that the negative impact the 4th Crusade had on the Christian world was that they destroyed the city to where they couldn't recover. That's negative because it helps discredit the entire Crusading movement. This is interesting because it ruins the entire Crusading movement. Those are the reasons why the Crusaders we're hated.

Most if not all of the people who participated in the People’s Crusade were known as peasants or poor people. Those who left with Peter early to take back the Holy Land were unsuccessful, they lost many troops and a lot of funds and did not make it to the Holy Land. According to Thomas, “Peter’s ragtag army was not the only one who left early… the French lord Walter Sansavior led another large and ill-discipline army of minor knights and enthusiastic peasants ahead of Peter the Hermit” (Madden
