Summary Introduction

To describe: The similarities between catabolic and anabolic pathways.

Introduction: The metabolism is a process by which any organisms or cell synthesize new product using the raw materials and consuming energy and also degradation of formed biomolecules in order to release energy and other raw materials. The synthesis of new biomolecules by using resources and energy of the body is called anabolism while catabolism is involved with a breakdown of biomolecules and release of the energy.

Explanation of Solution

The various similarities between the catabolic as well as the anabolic pathways are as follows:

  • Both the process involves some of the common steps in their respective pathway. For example amphibolic pathway such as the Krebs cycle.
  • The anabolism resulting in the formation one product (biomolecules) may be involved in the feedback control of catabolism rate of a substrate molecule and vice versa.
  • They both are a cell-dependent process and occur inside the cell.
  • The rates of both of these processes are altered by cell signaling and hormones.
  • These both processes have a specific set of reactions, need of enzymes and conditions required to proceed towards the end products.
