Jessica has been suffering from repeated bouts of nausea and vomiting accompanied by a constant roaring sound in her ears. Her condition worsened when she was unable to stand without feeling that she might fall at any moment. What is the most likely cause and name of this disorder?
JL, a 50-year-old woman, fell and broke the left tibia at the ankle. She is in the emergency department, waiting for the fracture to be immobilized. The leg hurts and she notes that the ankle is red and swollen. A diagnosis of a simple fracture and sprain (damage to ligaments) is made.
Describe the pathophysiology of her pain and swelling as related to both the fracture and the strain
Lin, a 5-year-11-month-boy was admitted to a paediatric hospital. No neck stiffness, Kernig's sign (-),
Brudzinski's sign (-), Babinski's sign (-). All joints had no swollen and tenderness. The outpatient
physician then ordered blood routine and peripheral blood smear tests. To find out the reasons for
the elbows pain, bilateral tibia, ulnar, femur and fibula films were taken. Blood routine test:
WBC=7.2 x 109/L, RBC=3.1 x 109/L, BPC=64 x 109/L, Hb=90g/L, atypical cells 7%. Peripheral blood
smear test: blast=18%, L=48%, N=31%. Bilateral tibia, ulnar, femur and fibula films: no obvious bone
tissue damage in the bilateral ulnar, fibula, lower section of the tibia and the distal part of the femur.
The outpatient physician suggested the parents to sign the consent form of bone marrow aspiration
immediately and wished to proceed with the procedure as soon as possible to analyse the immune
markers. The physician also informed the parents that, if necessary, Lin may need to have a bone

- After viewing the MRI and talking with Elaine, Dr. Leutz strongly advised her to have reconstructive surgery on the ACL and to use conservative therapy on the partially torn medial collateral ligament. First, though, he wanted her to "pre-hab"-that is, take physical therapy for several weeks-in order to have the knee and leg in the best possible shape before the surgery. She was also instructed to use a more substantial brace. Dr. Leutz described the procedure: either a cadaver tendon OR the middle third of her patellar tendon would be removed and used to replace the ACL, which would be removed. Elaine opted to use her own tendon. Five weeks later, Elaine went in for surgery. She was given a drug used for conscious sedation as well as a general anesthetic. Through the arthroscope the surgeon noted significant injury to both the medial and lateral menisci, which he repaired with sutures and screws. The pieces of the torn ACL were removed. A superficial incision was made in the midline…arrow_forwardWhat therapeutic procedure is described as applying a pulling force on a fractured or dislocated limb or vertebral column in order to restore normal alighnment?arrow_forwardWhat are the common pathologies of the hand and wrist?arrow_forward
