Introduction:

Patients with certain diseases cannot consume food orally and need to be given mixtures of nutrients or feeding formulas directly to some part of the digestive tract. The feeding formula used may be given directly to the stomach through a gastric tube, or directly to the middle part of the small intestine (jejunum) through a jejunum tube.
