Chapter 46.7, Problem 2TYK
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
When a species is moved to a new location by humans, such species are termed as the introduced species. These species are moved to different locations for various benefits and by different ways of transport. Sometimes, introduced species become invasive species. Invasive species are those species that spread in an area rapidly and affect the native species.

Which of the following organisms would be most likely to become invasive if introduced to a new habitat?
A- A plant that is pollinated by a single species of insect
B- A plant that requires a long period of cold weather in order to germinate
C- An animal that reaches sexual maturity at 20 years of age
D- A fungus that produces millions of spores that disperse on the wind
E- An animal that feeds on only one species of plant
forest sites than in forest fragments, whereas there were no significant differences
between fragments of different sizes. These results provide further evidence for the
effects of habitat size on the phorid-Acromyrmex system in a tropical rain forest,
based on the abundance of parasitoids both as adults in the field and as reared
immature phorids in the laboratory.
Phorid parasitized leafcutter ants were most abundant in areas of continuous
forest, and less abundant in the forest fragments.
O Phorid flies are important parasitoids of leafcutter ants
nd leafcutter ants can be found in Brazil's Southeastern

Atlantic Forest.
The study provides evidence that this parasitoid-host interaction between
phorid flies and leafcutter ant differs between continuous forest and forest
fragments.
Phorid flies were just as abundant in forest fragments as they were in
continuous forest, but were less successful in parasitizing leafcutter ants.
What is Brood parasitism? Give an example. What adaptation has evolved in this phenomenon?

Most of these have been presumed to be extinct for decades. Eight of the declared extinctions were bird species endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. - Which row below best describes why the population of adult mosquitoes would drop so dramatically during this time period Feb. 5, 2007 Something is wiping out honey bees across North America and a team of researchers is rushing to find out what it is. What’s being called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has now been seen in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and way out in California. Some bee keepers have lost up to 80 percent of their colonies to the mysterious disorder. Whatever kills the bees targets adult workers, which die outside the colony — with few adults left inside, either alive or dead. The disorder decimates the worker bee population in a matter of weeks. Aside from making honey, honey bees are essential for the pollination of tens of million of dollars worth of cash crops all over the United States. That’s why almond growers of California, for instance, are taking notice and pledging funds to help identify and fight the honey bee disorder.
