Chapter 43.4, Problem 2CC
Summary Introduction

To write:

Omnivores might fit into both herbivores and predators.

Introduction:

Omnivore’s animal that eats vegetation (plants) as well as meat of other animals. Like carnivores, some omnivores hunt for food. They are considered as secondary consumers because they feed on primary producers and primary consumers. Examples of omnivores are turtles, birds, crows, humans, etc.

They eat plants but not all types of plants. As opposed to herbivores or vegetarian, omnivores cannot assimilate some of the materials in grains or other plants or parts of plants that do not generate fruit.

what are the carnivores in the food web
Assume that we eat herbivores only. As first-level carnivores, how many humans can now be supported in the ecosystem?
Consider the two passages below. Which one do you agree with, and why? Support your argument using examples from experience and observation.  In approximately one paragraph, defend one position, then refute the other.  Or take a position somewhere between them and explain your point of view.  In The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Michael Pollan quotes a food industry executive, Gene Kahn, regarding our food choices: “This is just lunch for most people. Just lunch. We can call it sacred, we can talk about communion, but its just lunch.” In Just Food, James McWilliams “offer(s) a vision of sustainability that assumes that, as socially conscious consumers, we’re prepared to take on more complexity in the quest to achieve an environmentally responsible diet.”
