Concept introduction:
Doxycycline is an antibiotic that falls under the semisynthetic tetracycline. Doxycycline (oral form) has the best absorption property among all the tetracycline antibiotics. It is effective against most of the gram-negative bacteria. It is used in the treatment of rickettsial infections, spirochetal infections and chlamydial infections.
This drug can be administered through oral and intravenous routes. Life threatening allergic reactions can be caused by doxycycline such as breathing troubles and swelling of tongue, face, and lips.
