To create:
A sketch of bone containing compact bone, spongy bone, and osteons.
Introduction:
The total bones in the skeleton system of an adult are 206. The bones in the skeletal system are divided into two categories, appendicular skeleton and axial skeleton. The main function of this system is to provide movement, frame, and structure to the body.
Explanation of Solution
The sketch of bone is shown as below:
Compact bone − It is also termed as cortical bone. It is made up of denser material, so that it can create harder portion of the skeleton. Compact bone mainly forms the cortex, outer harder portion of bones.
Spongy bone − It is also termed as cancellous bone. It is porous bone and contains red bone marrow. It is mainly found at the end of long bones.
Osteon − Compact bone contains many tightly packed osteons. An osteon contains haversian canal surrounded by lamellae of matrix. Between matrix rings bone cells are found.
