Introduction:
Ceramics are solids made from dried clay.
Five uses of ceramics and their properties are:
- Tableware − Ceramics are used to manufacture tableware like plates and glass because of its durability. Also, ceramics do not react with acids, salts and water in the food. Hence, it is safe to used tableware made of ceramics.
- Tiles − Tiles are used on floors, walls and roofs.Since ceramics have strength and durability, they can be used as tiles.
- Electric poles − Ceramics do not
conduct electricity. Hence, they are termed as insulators. They are used in making electric poles so that the pole does not conduct electricity. - Replacement of joints − Ceramics are strong and also do not have a
chemical reaction with elements and compounds of the body. Hence, it is safe to install replacements made of ceramics in the body. - Space rockets − Since ceramics are bad conductors of heat, they are used in rockets to protect them from heat.
Conclusion:
Ceramics exhibit their property due to the bonds between their atoms.
