Concept explainers
The frequency at which rope should be shaken.
Answer to Problem 16PP
Lower frequency
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The number of waves which pass a fixed point in the given amount of time is called as the wave frequency and it can be measured by the counting number of crests that means high points of waves which passes in a fixed point in 1 second and the higher number is greater frequency of the wave.

Suppose, creating a transversewave in a rope same as like the above diagram. One end, of the rope is tie to a tree or any other fixed point and then shake the other end of the rope up and down by using your hand.
Frequency of the wave is related to the energy of the wave. As all that waves really are of travelling energy, as the energy in wave is more the frequency will be higher. And vice versa. Wavelength is inversely related to the frequency. So, to increase the wavelength, the frequency must be lowered.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the rope should be shaken at a lower frequency.
