Personal Narrative: My Hero's Journey

To play a role given to us, isn’t fun once we learn of it, however, breaking away pushes us further into the journey. The Hero's Journey, a repetitive process that seems to be in the basic natural structure of every human, and despite any efforts are often replicating it ourselves. Following the journey is simple and sometimes unavoidable. The whole journey is mapped out by Christopher Vogler's The Writer's Journey. Then seen in Dracula, Bedazzled, and Noah. Also, in a easier way Howl's Moving Castle and The Game.

One weekend, my friend Hannah and I wanted to go on a quad ride during the night. It was during the summer and we were at Hannah’s house and we were bored. So we thought it would be a good idea to go for a ride, so we asked her step dad if we could and he said yes. We both thought it would be super fun to go for a quad ride. So, we get all geared up in proper clothing because it was cold out and off we went.

Joseph Campbell has a theory called The Hero’s Journey in where an individual is shown in a mundane world, called to an adventure, and goes on the adventure. In the adventure, the individual goes on the path of trials that consisting of making new friends, new mentors, new enemies, facing new challenges, gaining new skills, and new knowledge. When the individual comes back to their mundane world, they are the master of two worlds through their new experiences they've gained in the adventure. The Hero’s Journey has been repeated in literature and films through many years: two examples that have The Hero’s Journey are the films, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Although this hero journey had ended, I had much more in progress and waiting to be done. In my opinion, this move was very beneficial even though I wasn’t particularly content about it at first. The journey I was preparing myself for next was school.

Joseph Campbell is a leading mythology expert and philosopher who studied all myths from around the world and found the “Hero’s Journey,” a pattern or algorithm that appears in common in myth, religious ritual, and storytelling. The Hero’s Journey has three elements, separation, initiation and return. If I think about myself, coming to Hawaii by myself was a separation from my comfortable zone where I was surrounded by my supportive family. First time when I came here, I could not say anything and became quiet because I thought people would think I was a stupid and not understand me. I was afraid of how people think about my language skills. However, I tried to speak from myself, asked people to collect my mistakes, accepted what I cannot do

That was a lot of money, and I didnt want to let Tony down so I got in the car and started to drive. As I drove the road was empty. I had confidence I was not going o get caught. It was a slightly wormer day out witch might have been because the sun was out. I had the windows down and was blaring music just trying to enjoy life when a cop pulls out behind me.

I was nine years old when it happened. I loved Shrek so much, I owned all the movies and the merchandise, I even prayed to Shrek every night, I still do. This night was no different "Shrek is love. Shrek is life." I finish my prayer, thanking Shrek for the life I've been given. My dad overhears me "Faggot." he mumbles under his breath. "Cunt." I reply, I say no more because I know he is just jealous of the devotion and relationship I have with the green lord an savior, Shrek. I can see him grow angrier before he slaps me across the face "Go to your room you disgusting faggot!" he yells. I hold back the tears and I go back to my room, once I'm in the safety in my room I let the rears flow. My face stings from where he hit me. I climb into my cold and lonesome bed, and the suddenly, I feel a warmth move towards me, it runs a large finger down my back.

After I met with the Knights of Columbus, I drove out to my aunt’s place. As we ate lunch, she said, “You know your father was kicked out of the Knights for arguing with the pastor over the parting of the Red Sea,” and she went on to tell me the story. He said an asteroid landed in the Mediterranean Sea, and it had an affect like dropping a rock in a puddle. It pushed the Red Sea into the Gulf of Aden, and by the time the Egyptian Army entered the Red Sea, the waters were returning to their normal elevation.

I woke up on friday may 27th , getting ready to leave for school and when L got to school i saw my two best friend outside both looking really sad and i walk up to them and aaliyah was crying and i asked what's wrong, She was too sad to tell me so my other friend lexi told me “mom died” at first i thought they were joking because how could she have died and i just said how and she started crying which made me cry i just wanted to scream and later on that day i was still wondering how stephani ,how could a beautiful,29 year old single mom with three kids that was always full of laughter and joy just die a couple days from her birthday and just at all.i have known her all my life well since i was four my heart broke i literally felt my heart

As we stepped off the plane, there was an immediate rush of warm air when we took the stairs down to the tarmack. After the five hour plane ride in the cold, small plane, it felt nice to stretch out in the sun. We walked off of the tarmack onto the sidewalk that led to the parking garage and were immediately greeted by a kind man. He welcomed us to his country and directed us towards the correct direction. As we left him behind, he shouted “pura vida” to us. This was the first time I ever heard this phrase and I had no idea what it meant.

It was truly a wonderful feeling to have the sun on my back and the wind through my knees. Modesty aside, I could run quite fast for a boy my age. Up and down pastoral yellow hummocks; they were to a field what waves are to an ocean overwrought by an impassioned tempest, and I was a vessel rising and falling at the mercy of its ardent ascendency.

It’s a situation that represents a pattern of a human nature. The hero’s journey are stages of different adventures that the hero’s take. “The journey is one that has gained much praise and consideration of worth in the literary community” (). The hero’s journey can fit in any folklore, legends, myths, and fairy tales. In legends the hero’s adventure can be in a real place with realistic things. Myths in an adventure they can have a mythical creature in it. Then in fairy tales their adventures can be 100% false and have talking creatures that guide them. However legends have the strongest connection to the archetypal hero’s journey. Robin Hood for example had a normal life, he found a problem about the poor, he began to help them by becoming an outlaw to other. He puts his life on the line a lot doing what he does, but in the end he sees the smiles on the people’s faces. Robin Hood started out with an ordinary life learning how to hunt and fight. He noticed how the rich people treated the poor in a bad manner. They could hardly take care of their own families. So Robin went out and began to steal from the rich getting caught sometimes, but the skilled archer got out alive. He sells the things he take and gives the money to those who are in need of it.The journey helps the reader connect with the story by showing them how much time, work, and effort they put in it to get to their goal. Robin Hood took his time to train and find the people that he would take from. He didn’t have to put his life out on the line for the poor but wanted to help. He did what he thought was the best thing to do, and he succeeded with many poor
