I decide to accept Journeys Middle School as my new challenge based on the superintendent’s offer of the role of the school principle, because I believe that empower teachers and focusing on students’ achievement in a key factor for a good school community and value.
My first steps, as I prepare to enter the schools, as a principal will be:
1- Clear and shared mission and vision: define clear and vital mission and vision are the initial step for starting a school. Moreover, most schools have a mission statement for twenty years or more. The vision leads the school to set their goal and the goal will be measured outcomes in increasing student achievement. The goal most be created in measurable format. For example, specific, achievable, reviewable
The aims are what the school wants to achieve. They could include the goals, targets, intentions and purpose.
Park Middle is located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and is one of two middle schools within the town. On average there are 930 students enrolled at Park over the past three years (See Appendix A, Table A1). Additionally, Scotch Plains’ population consists of 77.4% White citizens, but is also composed of 11.1% of African Americans, 7.7% Asian, and 6.7% Hispanic citizens (see Appendix B, Table B1). The town’s population is largely representative of the school’s demographics (see Appendix C, Graph C1). When referencing the school’s performance on district benchmarks and state testing, Park Middle School has met most of their established targets. However, even with most established targets met, certain subgroups are in need of further attention
Their vision statement is to prepare all students to meet the academic, creative, and social challenges and responsibilities of our society. Their mission statement is to provide the students with learning environments that are safe and conducive to learning, and to embrace school and community partnership. The core values and beliefs of the school is that every individual is entitled to an emotionally and physically safe and respectful learning environment. Schools that stimulate progress will produce students who will become great critical thinkers and problem
There are many ways of communicating ethos, mission aims and values. However the best way to communicate this is by ensuring us as adults display the behaviours we want to see, we must be kind and considerate, as this is the behaviour the children will follow. They can also be communicated via the written word, through reports, letters and the school prospectus. As long as this information is readily available it can be a very effective way of communicating the above, as it means that they are always on hand to refer back to.
I am a student here at Oxford Middle school and I feel that it is important to inform you that our school should have a wider variety of electives. Oxford Middle school is a perfectly fine school, but many of the students seem to not be able to focus in class. My belief is that kids aren’t doing what they find as fun with the school day they have now. I think that our school should give more elective choices so that kids won't be as board in school.
The case study of Ridgewood Middle School resonated with me in a positive manner. The elementary school where I teach, while not riddled with graffiti, shares many characteristics with the old Ridgewood. Our families struggle with extreme poverty and our community has the highest violent crime rate in the city. As I have mentioned previously our test scores are among not just the lowest in the city, but also the lowest in the state. We have an extremely high teacher turnover rate and I have worked with three different principals in three years. The teacher turnover rate would be even higher if new teachers were allowed to transfer. Consequently, we have students and some staff that simply do not want to be in our school. The successes of
Timberlane Middle School is located in the town of Pennington, New Jersey. It is one of six school in the Hopewell Valley Regional school district and is the only middle school. The school district is highly supportive of the arts and funds many extra curricular music programs such as marching band, winter colorguard, indoor percussion, and jazz band. The school directly located across from the Central High School, allowing for both schools to collaborate in multiple projects. For example, many 8th grade middle school students are allowed to join the extra curricular music programs offered at the high school. In addition, this allows me and my cooperating teacher to travel during the day from the high school, where my main student teaching
The strategic planning process begins by reviewing the organizations mission, vision and values. Clarifying the mission, vision, and goals at the beginning strategic planning process can help align fragmented entities (2 p. 293). The mission statement identifies the organizations reason for existing and how it is unique in comparison to other organizations (A p. 294). It is a short, concise and clear statement that serves as a rallying point for the organization (4 p. 752). The mission provides clues about the types of services that can be expected from the organization (A). Failing to check new projects against the mission can cause an organization to get into trouble (A p. 294).
This current school year is the first year of the Innovation Academy magnet school has been put into play at Springfield Middle School. The program allows for students throughout the entire county to engage in a high level of learning that will prepare them for leadership possibilities and to make an impact on the working world. By bringing in students and families from all over the county, not just Springfield, we are allowing them the opportunity to see what our school is really about and not just rely on what they hear. “The image the principal and the school have in a community is critical not only to the school but also to the welfare and financial growth of the area. With this in mind, it is important for principals
Chelsea Middle School has a problem about drugs that could turn deadly. Drugs can be a problem when people get addicted, or overdose on drugs. Another way how drugs can affect someone is by limiting their college choices. This is a problem because people might not be able to do a dream job in the future because of all of those mistakes that they made. Lastly, drugs are a problem because they can cause cancer if any of the drugs involve smoking. Chelsea Middle School has a problem with drugs, and the solution is to monitor the students better. It will be 115, 097 dollars for the total cost, and the fundraiser will be to do a kickstarter online to fundraise the problem.
When reflecting on what was completed this week, Strategic Leadership would be the standard in which the tasks would fall. The first day was an introduction of what is expected as being the newly assigned assistant principal. I will oversee buses, custodians, and discipline. In addition, I will complete evaluations on teachers and oversee PLCs.
The mission, vision, and values statement of an organization are inspiring words that are selected by successful leaders in order to clearly and precisely communicate the direction of the organization. Through developing clear and concise mission, vision, and values statement, the organization and its leaders can powerfully express their intentions and motivate the employees towards the achievement and realization of the attractive and common vision and objectives. However, the mission statement, vision statements, and values statements accomplish distinct objectives in an organization.
As an educational leader, I must have a vision and mission statement for the school that is known by the staff, students, and parents. The vision will address the needs of the students academically, emotionally, and socially. According to DuFour (1998), “ Those who seek to transform their school into a professional learning community as characterized by an environment fostering mutual cooperation, emotional support, personal growth, and a synergy of efforts.” The leader must implement a plan that will cultivate the success of all students. The mission will speak to the direction of the school community stating what the desire goals are. The building leader will lead by example. High expectations will be communicated and encourage by staff and students. The educational leader of a school must develop a culture of team work to create a climate that is student friendly. The vision mission and goals of the leader should be transparent. The establishment of common goals is the first step. Without common goals, sustainable progress will be impossible and thus everyone will have lower expectations. The students, parents, and staff should be commented to the goals of every child reaching their full academic potential. The school environment should speak to goal setting and high expectations for all students and staff.
The school’s vision and mission in making instructional decisions for the school is used during meetings with teachers and when talking about the alignment of the interactions and relationships with all member of the learning community and the alignment of instruction. There is a mission and vision that we want students to know. We are constantly repeating it. It is posted in the rooms. Any time that we repeat the expectation, we are tying it into the vision and mission. For example, chargers, we say “Charging Fearlessly toward Academic and Personal Excellence”. The teachers also model what is expected from students. They have posters on walls that say “I expect you to be GREAT”. G was for getting on time to class. R was for respecting everyone, and E was for engaging, and the A was asking questions and the T is thinking. We are constantly positively recognizing the students that are meeting the vision and making sure of what that is.
Learning that inspires, opportunities for all. I’m Principal Jones, we’ll look forward for you to
