Free Days Are Good Days "I am so overwhelmed with all of my homework; I have no time to do it," said Dominick Howard. This adequately describes many students' attitudes toward school work. Many students, like Dominick, believe they do not have enough time to do homework, and they believe they need free days in order to complete such work. Although many teachers believe free days would mess with their schedules and schools already give sufficient time to complete work, students are given too much work without being given enough time and need free days in order to keep up. Some may argue that giving a free day would create a mess in a schedule, but if teachers took the time to build it into their original schedule, it wouldn’t be a problem.
By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn't be able to work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they know they wouldn't have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren't learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they’re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter's tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and high school due to the amount of
I never will understand this day to the fair and what all happened, I don’t think anyone will. I just know that one animal ruined a month for me. It was the week right before fair, and all I did was walk my cow. It was the first time ever showing a cow, my brother convinced me that it would be a fun learning experience. That didn’t happen at all for me when I walked into that show ring with a 1,100 pound steer. I was up at 4:00 a.m. the morning of the show, and I was ready to go wash my cows and get them ready for the show.
The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However, numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the child’s education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child’s education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent-Teacher Association endorse the “10-minute rule” for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than good when attempting to complete the assigned homework.
Teaching responsibility and proper time management is another valid argument for homework. After all, the ability to budget one’s time plays an essential role in higher education and throughout life. Yet, who is truly doing the time budgeting? Especially in elementary school,
After a long day of school, students are tired, stressed, and overworked. This is often something that is ignored when it comes to students of all ages. Homework provides a heavy load that can add additional stress and time on a student’s shoulders. Schools should be making sure that students are receiving enough work throughout the day, to make sure kids do not have the worry of homework when school is over. Students who receive lots of homework, may not have enough time in the evenings to be around family, friends and enjoy the rest of their day.
It is evident in almost every high school, students don’t seem to appreciate the piles of homework their teachers’ assign. Students don’t seem to have the time nor the willpower to do homework sometimes, due to their busy schedules or motivation for school. Majority of students, I’ve spoken to have said homework not only wastes time but also takes away from the excitement of learning. Clearly, in most schools, homework isn’t the most popular choice for students. Sometimes teachers assign a couple of pages of homework but then tag along a project and a presentation into the mix, leaving us young adults procrastinating to perfect everything before the due date, usually being the next day. Homework is an unnecessary chore which stresses teenagers out by taking time out of their day, which could be used for more effective manners for preparing for tests and developing their minds.
My mom, dad, and me all work and go to school at different hours, as a result we have a habit of misunderstanding one another such as who is picking up my sister, Alaina. During the weekdays my parents work while I am at school, but at night or on the weekend when they are home I will be at work or at an after school activity. We do not have a lot of time that we are able to figure out our day to day schedules as a result when my mom says that I have to pick up my sister, but I tell her I cannot one day but can another day. There has been many times where Alaina has been left at bowling practice or at school without a ride home because my mom thought I was picking her up and I thought my dad was picking her up. Texting is an essential part
Me and my family was at the carnival my big brother wants to go on the orbiter so we were on the ride and it bring you up and start to spin you around and around and it feels like you are about to fly off and that’s scared me to death. So then after the ride was over we went over to my mom and my big sister wants me to go on the super shot with her and that bring you higher than the last ride it brings you up in the air and drops down super-fast. So we wait in line because we are the last one in line for free day and I back out and my dad came over and was like I’ll go. So I went back over to my mom and said if you go on with her I’ll give you 5 dollars. So I went back over to them and told my dad what my mom had told me and still did not
Millions of students across the globe have other activities and responsibilities to take care of other than school. When school is released for the day, they expect to have time to complete those responsibilities, but instead they have 4 different packets of homework. In this day and age, you would think school boards would recognize that students don’t only go to school Monday through Friday. Daily homework needs to be limited in order to give opportunity to other students that may want to take on a job or other hobbies.
Education is known as one of the most important things in the United States. Society should make everything in their power to provide students and teachers with extra time to make the best out of the education they’re given. As students, they don't always have enough time to do homework as most students do activities after school. Giving students and teachers one less day of school will allow students to do their work and for teachers to get things ready for the upcoming week. Four-day school is a great idea as it improves students attitude and grades, it leads to saving money, and it increases teachers preparation time.
As a student at Granite Ridge Intermediate, I am naturally not a fan of school (no offence to Granite Ridge). I would probably be even less of a fan of school if the school days were longer because it is such a bad idea. Some schools in the U.S have already extended their school days. The people who did this believe that extending the school day is actually going to have a positive impact on the students and teachers. I’m here to give you three reasons why these people made a horrible mistake. The problem is not that the school day isn’t long enough for teachers to get their message across, it’s that the teachers aren’t doing their job most of the time, there is no correlation between longer school days and better test scores, and finally, it costs way too much to extend school days.
The first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day, and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight-eight-eight schedule. This schedule being eight
Adding this free period would give students the option to catch up on school work. When students miss school days, that automatically means missed work. So when students are sick, missing work will pile up fast. Students who do sports don’t always have time to do their homework when it gets late. Some sports don’t end until late times, and some sports may take over the whole weekend and then they can’t get work done in time. Some students can’t keep up with all of their work because it gets difficult. When work gets hard you mad need extra help from teachers.
There are many causes of too much homework. Some students say that they lose sleep from trying to attempt to finish all their homework. Some students say that’s when they start to give up on it they stop doing homework; that’s when they start falling behind. Instead of asking for help they just start to fall farther behind. Teachers say it there fault but how does a student do their homework if they don’t know what they are doing. Some teachers say well you should ask for help, but sometimes students don’t ask for help because they are scared or they do not know how to ask for
No such thing as a free lunch is from economis, meaning even if the meal is free you still give up something. Example you give up time that could be spent doing something else in order to consume the free lunch. Opportunity Cost look it up. Im not defending Kingston, Im for Hillary, but when you take this as litteral, it reflects bad on Hillary
