Key Questions – Unit 5

57.
a) The Canadian population is still growing despite its low birth rate because of a few factors. Canada is a developed country, with advances in public sanitation, medicine, and public health. All of which give Canada a low mortality rate. Immigration also plays a big part in Canada’s population growth, as Canada is considered by many to be the most multi-cultural country in the world.
b) There are many factors contributing to Canada’s low birth rate of 1.6 children per woman.
* Education: Many women in Canada are educated and choose to pursue careers as opposed to

1975 population: 28000
1976 births: 900
1976 deaths: 1600
Net Population Change: (b+i) – (d+e)
= (900 + 0) – (1600 + 0)
= 900 – 1600
= -700
Net Population Change % = -700/28000 x 100
= - 2.5%
The population change of Peary Caribou is -2.5%

c) The population appears to follow the logistic growth model. Its mathematical equation is:
d) The carrying capacity of the container appears to be 600.
66.
a) The two species appear to have a predator and prey relationship.
b) Species A is the predator and species B is the prey. When species B’s population increases, it allows for the increase in population for the predator species.
c) The population dynamics of species A lags behind species B because the predator’s food needs to be abundant in order for its population to increase. As the prey population increases, it creates the food resource necessary for an increase in the predator population. As the predator population increases, more prey are killed and less food becomes available, resulting in a decreased predator population. The cycle can start again when the population of prey increases yet again.

a) The type of competition was interspecific competition.
b) Connell showed that the realized niche of the barnacle semibalanus was the same as its fundamental niche by clearing the upper tidal reach of Cthamalus so
For centuries, women have been seen as lesser than men: the stereotype that females are the “weaker sex” barred them from opportunities to be seen as equal to men. Many believed that a woman should be relegated to domestic roles; jobs that were seen as too “soft” and feminine for a man to do. Women in Canada were not exempt from this expectation that the only job they should have was in the home. While this viewpoint is antiquated and restrictive towards women, it held merit in that women were the ones who stayed at home for generations while the men went out to work. However, the 20th century ushered in a new era for working women. Over the last century, women have proven their integral role in the Canadian workforce. Canadian women have
of the food chain. This would cause their numbers to rise, which would lead to irreparable damage to the ever-fragile ecosystem.
Could it be that Canada is a desired place to raise children from the amount of assistance the Government gives? Findings include; where education is low, poverty is as well. Socio economics without question play a role in teen pregnancy rates.
The local animals population is decreasing because the Python snakes are eating them. According to the text, “With no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and bobcats, as well as many bird species." This supports that the local animal population is decreasing because the snakes are eating the animals since the python snake population is growing then the other animals population is decreasing. The more snakes
Say a frog eats a caterpillar, then a snake eats the frog, then finally a owl eats the snake. This is just a simple food chain but something called biodiversity, which means that’s there is a variety of things a that one animal can eat. An owl cant only eat a snake it could eat the frog or something smaller like a worm. This keeps form one species dying out completely, which would cause multiple species to die out. When someone releases a pet into the wild they are causing a disturbance into the wild habitat. When a python is released into a place full of crocodiles these two will start competing for food which would cause all of the lower species to start lowing in numbers faster until they become extinct which would then make the snakes and the crocodile die off too. If this keeps on happening the eventually every animal would die off!
-Reintroduction of a top predator lowered the number of over grazing herbivores, leaving a more stable amount of food for many species of herbivores.
Canada is identified for its sincere generosity that has presented its entire people the privileges to deliberate themselves in several methods. When relating to more unlucky nations, Canada has obtained the Canadian women the chance and freedom to select whichever profession of their choice. Yet, due to societal customs, women typically acknowledge conflicts, that are depressingly estimated upon by the society and are not clearly recognized into careers that are well thought out as men-orientated. Social customs existing in the Canadian culture, generated obstacles in the society of what professions are customary for women and what careers are recognized for men, which makes a key matter of woman acknowledgment in the political parties. Canada overpowers a succession of debatable subjects concerning femininity correspondence, which directed Canadian culture to improve their opinions. As civilization's interpretations rationalized, it carried numerous optimistic modifications concerning gender societal means through the years, such as the recognition of women to participate in the political parties.. Although, in Canadian politics, it is often seen the lack of contribution women make to the political community. Even though, women are as capable as men to participate in Canadian politics, women in Canadian politics are usually looked down upon due to the historical gender views within society, gender inequality that differentiates between the abilities of between both genders
To begin with, Canada grew out of ignorance during World War II as the traditional roles of women changed when they slowly merged into the labour force. When the men left to serve in the military, the country did not stop functioning, but women stepped
number of animals in an area surpasses the available food supply? More often than not, the
If a predator organism was removed from an ecosystem, it would allow the prey population to increase which could lead to not having enough food for these organisms to eat. For example, if wolves were eliminated from the taiga biome than there would be a dramatic increase in the population of moose. This would result in the moose not having enough jack pine and could lead to starvation. The wolves would then have to eat more rabbits, elk, and voles which would decrease their population and starve the organisms that rely on these animals.
In Canada, most people with conditions usually choose to have only one child and lead to a drop in the natural population growth rate. While older workers are retired, the newly added workforce slows down the entire workforce to an alarming level. The low birth rate and the aging of the population are a worrying concern for Canada. Carrollton University economics professor Frances Woolley warns that
The speaker cast doubts on the idea that pollution is the my cause for otter popullation decline. According to the Speaker, instead of pollutions but over hunting of whales could be the main cause for the otters incidence decline would predatation. Therefore the speaker asserts that decrease in the otter population could be linked to new a new predator in its habitat: orcas in search for new preys to replace the shrinking population of their natural preys, the whales.
Regulating the smaller predator and prey population allows plants to grow and their roots prevent erosion around streams and fields. When wolves are not present in a habitat prey increases and overgrazing occurs. When wolves kill their prey the remains of the carcass fill the ground full of nutrients. Wolves even affect fish populations. Wolves are included in the trophic cascade phenomenon.
The exact scenario changes in each example, but the central idea remains that through a chain of interactions, a non-abundant species has an outsized impact on ecosystem functions.
In a habitat, no two species can occupy the same niche at the same time. Because of this principle, different species would often compete for space in order to complete their niche. This competition would often result in organism dying out of many species are using the same type of resources for their niche. When the species die out, evolution kicks in and the other species evolve and improve their genetic code in order to find a way to fill the missing niche.
