The purpose of education is to transmit both knowledge and skills needed to live in our modern world. Learning, such as critical thinking, should light a flame within the students that is a desire to learn, instead of smothering this desire through rote memorization. Just as Plato proposed that people must emerge from their caves of their own reality, students need to be brought forth out of their caves and into the sunlight by their guides who are teachers. Students learn through a variety of ways, depending on their own needs. Some students learn through modeling, for example, while others learn best by investigation. Students should be taught, as John Locke wrote in his Some Thoughts Concerning Education, “almost in playing.” Learning should not be in rote, but rather be a guided discovery. Students should be given the chance to use their imaginations to produce conclusions under the guidance of their teachers. In Emile, Rousseau describes the ideal student as thus, “If he knows nothing by heart, he knows a great deal by experience.” This means that a person learns the best through experience, not memorization. It is important for today’s students to go beyond what they have only read and to instead be able to use their education. Students also need a motivation to learn, or they may just absorb the knowledge mechanically without incorporating it into their thought process. This real world thinking should be expanded beyond their own realities and into the outside world, such as the wider community.
Students should be taught how to be citizens of the global world, rather than just a small focus on their own communities. Being apart of the teaching field is often overlooked. Teachers don’t get the recognition they deserve. It takes time and effort to even be handed the degree. Working for that degree you have to go through numerous of classes which ends up with hours of studying outside of class. Leaving out the ACT, you have to have a 22 or higher score to be accepted into the teacher school. In my highschool experience, it was a big change for myself. I had an I.E.P at the time and my caseworker was Linda Rich. Not only did she impact my life but she impacted a lot of other teenagers look on schooling. She was a Teacher assistant for two years at Lake Forest High School also, a special ed and mainstream teacher since 1981.
I see students as the next generations’ heroes in so many fields. In my vision, I have to inspire students and prepare them with confidence, knowledge, experience and skills. Which means I encourage, communicate, guide, teach, and assess students in order to enrich their infrastructures.
I feel that the goal of education is to open up a world of possibilities for learners. The purpose of education is to show someone that they have the ability to do and be whomever they want to. Education is simply there for bettering oneself and one’s world.

I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
Every teacher has a different method of teaching. The teachers that I have had in my school career have been no exception. In this way, each teacher has set an example for me, as a future teacher, to follow or not to follow as I see fit. With the examples from my teachers and in continuing my education, I am developing my own method of teaching. I plan to use a combination of teaching methods in my own classroom. My method will be an eclectic approach because I will be using components of more than one philosophy. I will be using essentialism, behaviorism, progressivism, and existentialism.
My philosophy of teaching is deeply rooted in nurturing the potential each and every student in my classes. Providing a creative environment that allows self assessment, growth, group interaction and mentorship are at its very core. Having taught in Higher Education for many years, and as an instructor of Media Arts and Animation, and Game Design, I have had the amazing opportunity to work with some of the brightest and creative young professionals. Teaching has not only broadened my love of art and exploration, but my determination to help students that do not have the confidence to persevere through their education, yet have the passion to follow their dreams.
Teaching is not just a job that I perform because I expect a reward at the end of each month; it is my passion and I feel extremely satisfied with every successful lesson. I like to help the society, and teaching gives me a great opportunity to do so. I am passionate about educating my students, so I work with them and motivate them to lead them to find inspiration in learning. I use different strategies to engage them and share with them the knowledge.
Sometimes in your life, there will have something special happening to you, and it will definitely change your way of thinking, your old method you used to deal with it. And it do happen to me too. It was on July 3rd 2015, I was strongly inspired by THE one of the most greatest teacher I’ve ever known and he made me change day by day with a lot of hard work, attempts and perseverance.
In the field of education there could arise many philosophical ideas of each individual teacher. Many of the past philosophies have been and still are used in today’s education programs, such as the Socratic method. My philosophy will also contain some of the many philosophies of the past and possibly the future. I will state the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of public education, method, and curriculum according to my own philosophies, which also may be based the philosophical ideas of previous individuals.
