Explanation of Solution

The purpose of installing a damper is to close the throat of the fireplace whenever the fireplace is not being used. The throat of a fireplace is an opening present at the top of the firebox that opens into the chimney.

A damper is a movable plate that is used to regulate the flow of air. The damper’s material should be ferrous metal and the damper should be able to completely cover the throat so that the heat does not escape from the fireplace when not being used. The damper is opened when the fireplace is used to let out the smoke through the chimney.
