The “Screaming Swing” is a carnival ride that is—not surprisingly—a giant swing. It’s actually two swings moving in opposite directions. At the bottom of its arc, a rider in one swing is moving at 30 m/s with respect to the ground in a 50-m-diameter circle. The rider in the other swing is moving in a similar circle at the same speed, but in the exact opposite direction.
a. What is the acceleration, in m/s2 and in units of g, that riders experience?
b. At the bottom of the ride, as they pass each other, how fast do the riders move with respect to each other?

- A jet fighter pilot knows he is able to withstand an acceleration of 9g before blacking out. The pilot points his plane vertically down while traveling at Mach 3 speed and intends to pull up in a circular maneuver before crashing into the ground. (a) Where does the maximum acceleration occur in the maneuver? (b) What is the minimum radius the pilot can take?arrow_forwardThe “Screaming Swing” is a carnival ride that is -not surprisingly- a giant swing. - On an otherwise straight stretch of road near Moffat, Colorado, the road suddenly turns. This bend in the road is a segment of a circle with radius 110 m. Drivers are cautioned to slow down to 40 mph as they navigate the curve.a. If you heed the sign and slow to 40 mph, what will be your acceleration going around the curve at this constant speed? Give your answer in m/s2 and in units of g.b. At what speed would your acceleration be double that at the recommended speed?arrow_forwardShown is a graph of the motion of the blades of a blender that is starts empty and is initially turned off. Then the power is turned on at thehighest speed setting, some ice cubes are added, and the blades slow down. The blades are 3.0 cm long.a. When the blender is empty and running at high speed, how much time is required for a blade to turn by 90°?b. How many revolutions does a blade complete between 15 and 20 seconds?c. How fast is the tip of a blade moving when the blender is running empty?arrow_forwardA crazy person jumped off a 100-meter sea cliff because of climate change (it's hot, you know). He is launched up in the air at a velocity of 20m/s in a direction making an angle of 25 degrees upward with the horizontal. a. What is the maximum height reached by the crazy person? b. What is the total time flight (between launch and touching the water surface) of the crazy person? c. What is the horizontal range of the crazy person? d. What is the magnitude of the velocity of the crazy person just before it hits the ground? Use Gresaarrow_forward
- An object moves in a horizontal circle at constant speed v (in units of m/s). It takes the object T seconds to complete one revolution. a.
