Whooping cough or pertussis is a bacterial disease. It is also known as 100 day cough. The bacterium responsible for causing whooping cough is Bordetella Pertussis. The disease is diagnosed by collecting sample from the throat and nose followed by either performing polymerase chain reaction or culturing the collected sample. There is a vaccine available for the prevention of this disease but a vaccinated person may also develop the disease but with milder symptoms.
