what is the importance of chemistry for medical students?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Chemistry-

  • Branch of science which deals with the study of chemical properties of elements, their reactions called as chemistry.
  • Chemistry has vital role in various fields like agriculture, industry, medical, pharmacy and drugs etc.
  • Chemistry has application in determining quality of engineering materials.

Step 2

Importance of chemistry for medical students-

  1. Discovery of drugs or improvement in already existed one- Ne drugs can be discovered under chemistry and recently discovered drugs used to improve their efficiency.
  2. To study action of drugs-by using specific mechanism action of drug can be easily studied which is supported by chemistry.
  3. To know composition of drug-It’s very essential to know composition of each drug because of that physician can recommend the drug to patients.
  4. To study chemical properties of drugs- drugs have many properties like alkalinity, solubility, acidity polarity can be studied by using chemistry.
  5. Diagnosis of disease- Disease can be identified by various chemical tests of blood, urine etc.
  6. The distribution of medicine in body parts- in human body there are several elements, acids are present. The drug absorption, excretion and movement in all body parts are controlled.
  7. To know mechanism of disease-diseases produce certain changes in human body but this mechanism of diseases can be controlled by using chemistry.
  8. For sanitation and Sterilization-Many chemical are used in sanitation and Sterilization like alcohol, phenol.
  9. Decreasing toxic effect of drug-many of drugs has adverse effects (toxic) on human body that are decreased by using chemistry.
