What are the 7 cultural universals?

Expert Solution
Introduction

The seven Universals of Culture are:

Explanation
  1. Environment: Every culture has a climate or geography that affects it. For example, as a result of dealing with the extreme desert heat, it has become cultural in the Middle East for men and women to cover their heads. However, people in Russia were conditioned by their atmosphere to gravitate towards furs. Climate, such as what ingredients are common, may also influence cuisine.
  2. Economics: Every society has a system under which it distributes services. Ex: Trade, employment, currency types, communication & transportation.
  3. Institutions: This is a type of order that is present in every society. This could be state, families, colleges, temples/churches, even.
  4. Values: There are beliefs in society that are seen to be valid. Moral values, traditions, or religion maybe these. How different societies have different perceptions of sexual morality may be an example. Social conventions such as handshaking may include others.
  5. Language: Every community, whether by spoken/written words or symbols, as a means of communication.
  6. Art: Stories and objects that explain the history of cultures and their creation. In literature, paintings, poetry, theatre, etc., this can be found.
  7. Recreation: Holidays in each society and means of entertainment. Numerous new year celebrations and spinning the cradle may be examples of this.
