The following manufacturing organization was established to produce several aerospace components four decades ago. The organization, over the years, have gone through several modernization and restructuring by replacing the machines and other equipment with the newer and better machines and equipment but the main functionality of the organization has remained the same. This system controls the data, which is stored in company owned manufacturing data base, through a relational database management system (RDBMS). The control system, mainly manages the data traffic between the data base and the machines, material handling system, tool management system, load/unload stations, gantry robots, inspection stations, chip removal system, part cleaning system and more importantly CAD/CAM department and the central database to control part programming traffic between the central database and the machine control units. The management of the organization has now wants leap up to become a smart factory by implementing Industry 4.0 and IIoT philosophies. The machines and the other equipment used within the organization are Industry 4.0 compatible systems and are very suitable for a smart factory environment. The organization wants to integrate all the machines and other facilities including the management offices such as Production Planning, Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, Quality Control, and Human Resource. Further, the company is part of a wider supply chain network and has a close interactions with several suppliers, vendors, warehouses, distribution centers and other engineering organizations. For a healthy operation on the shop floor as well as timely management of the data collection and distribution within the organization and across the supply chain, the company wants to establish a proper network and communication system with the help of IoT.
