Nanocrystalline substances are chemical substances which are used in small scale and which exhibit the special characteristics compared to the same substance without the features (increased strength, chemical reactivity) of nano substances

MgO has an adsorptive property owing to their higher surface area and so, it is a potential catalyst. It is used as a sorbent for chemisorptions. MgO has strong basic properties. Because of strong basic property, there is an easier adsorption of an α-proton from benzoin by a basic part of the catalyst.
