Peer Review Qualitative Methods Section by answering the question: Is Research design clear and appropriate to answer the research question? Introduction to Methods There exists a gap in the literature concerning workplace ageism and its implications in psychosocial safety and bullying. Specifically, as workers approach retirement, as they enter the workforce, and studies conducted in blue collar settings and manual laborers. This research is valuable and needed as not many results are yielded from a search of this topic. The hypothesis of this study is that ageism is a prevalent issue in the psychosocial safety of workplaces and those who are just entering the workforce and those nearing retirement are most vulnerable to be affected by this. I predict that the negative results of this harassment by coworkers due to age can affect stress levels, work performance, longevity of tenure, and attitude/temperament in the workplace. Does one age range experience/perpetuate ageism more often than others? How does ageism present differently in different kinds of workplaces? What are the relative ages of the perpetrators and the victims of workplace ageism? In what ways has the victims' well-being been affected? Does ageism have an effect on tenure in a company? A qualitative approach was taken in data collection so the researcher could deduce and analyze feelings, thoughts, and perceptions of workplace ageism to focus on the input of the people candidly. A grounded approach was used in order to best analyze the data with these factors in mind and uncover their meaning as the author of this study is most concerned with mental and emotional health disruptions in the workplace. Grounded theory also gives the opportunity to analyze the data as it is acquired and this theory proves useful when there is not much information on a given subject, such as ageism and psychosocial safety in the workplace.
