Density is the amount of material in a given volume. It can be thought of as how compact
something is. If two objects are the same size but one is heavier, it is more dense.
1. For each of the three rows below, circle which is more dense. One row will have the same

2. Three students are discussing the density of different sized rocks.

Student 2: I think things with the same density but different sizes can have different
weights. The atoms in the two rocks are equally compact, so the density is the same.
Student 3: I think it is easiest to compare things of the same size. If you broke a
piece off the big rock that was the same size as the little rock, they would have the
same weight, so that means the rocks have the same density.
