Chemistry Can someone explain to me where the base peak for an ester on mass spectrometry is? I know esters commonly fragment in two places to lose the -R and -OR groups, but which one is the base peak? Does it vary depending on the molecule? Does it matter? I included a picture to add context - basically I'm trying to figure out if the base peak will occur at the blue fragment or the green. I've been trying to figure this out for a 1/2 hour and my TA didn't have an answer for me. Thanks so much in advance - I will give you a thumbs up!
