At the instant shown, link CD rotates with an angular velocity of W = 8.5 rad/s. If it is subjected to a couple moment M = 300 N-m, determine the magnitude of reaction force developed in link AB. The block has a mass of 50 kg and center of mass at G. Neglect the mass of links AB and CD. (Hint, since the mass of link AB or CD is negligible, the external force or moment acting on it sums up to 0.) Please pay attention: the numbers may change since they are randomized. Your answer must include 1 place after the decimal point, and proper unit. Take g = 9.81 m/s2. 0.1 m 0.6 m В A 0.4 m G 0.4 m C M Your Answer: Answer units
Rigid Body
A rigid body is an object which does not change its shape or undergo any significant deformation due to an external force or movement. Mathematically speaking, the distance between any two points inside the body doesn't change in any situation.
Rigid Body Dynamics
Rigid bodies are defined as inelastic shapes with negligible deformation, giving them an unchanging center of mass. It is also generally assumed that the mass of a rigid body is uniformly distributed. This property of rigid bodies comes in handy when we deal with concepts like momentum, angular momentum, force and torque. The study of these properties – viz., force, torque, momentum, and angular momentum – of a rigid body, is collectively known as rigid body dynamics (RBD).
