MEMO DATE: October 5, 2016 TO: Timothy Meier, Written Communication Instructor FROM: Tonya Vallafskey, Student SUBJECT: Written Communication Progress Report This memo describes my progress to date in the Written Communication Class from August to October 2016. I will also discuss my plans to successfully complete the course in December 2016. Background: This course is required in order for me to complete my degree in Accounting. This is one of my final classes to take before completing my degree. My goal is to achieve a grade of C or higher in the class. Work Completed: I have completed six weeks of the class, and I am not happy with my current grade but I am working on it. That is due to an LP3 assignment I did not turn in
1.) The course covered areas that are critical for justice to be served. Much of the text highlighted the need for correct, reliable, complete, and understandable language required from law enforcement. The first chapter was about writing correctly by organizing, understanding confusing words and phrases and using proper sentences. This chapter also laid out ways and means to improve your verbal and written communication. This led us into Chapter 2 where the differences between oral and written records are discussed. It emphasized the importance of written documentation for permanent records which are used in the future for all types of references. Chapter 3
Communication can be made by body language, speech and formal writing. Being able to communicate with others is important, especially in a work environment and when your primary language is not the one use in your work- or everyday environment. Therefore, students are enforced to take some English and writing classes that would benefit their writing/communication abilities and prepare them to be competitive individuals in their future careers. In writing 302, student at least finish the semester with one improvement in one or more areas of writing, reinforce fundamental writing skills and teach several things that help in the process of writing. Thus, writing 302 is a class that make the student to push their limits in writing, encourage them
In the wake of the 2014 fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, national attention has focused on the use of force by law enforcement (ACLU, 2016.) To rebuild trust between law enforcement and communities, President Barack Obama signed an executive order establishing the Task Force of 21st Century Policing. In 2015, President Obama met with members of his Task Force and delivered a message to the press which highlighted the need to collect more data and information stating; “…there was a great emphasis on the need to collect more data. Across this country, we’ve got 18,000 law enforcement jurisdictions. Right now [law enforcement and local communities] do not have a good sense,
While writing this paper, I attempted to follow the forms and models put forth in the research papers we read in class during this unit. It was helpful to have something to follow while writing this report because I focused more on the “how” and “why” instead of the “what” of the research report structure. Overall, I found that this paper was much more organized than my last and I hope that this also improved the quality of my writing.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your company. After our conference call last month, I was very exciting to work with you to provide many different services to your clients.
M, Esq. filed a complaint on behalf of N against Attorney J on October 1, 2014. G alleges that S assisted Me in fraudulent conduct. S has allegedly violated Mass.R.Prof.C. 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 8.4(c) & (d).
I really get excited when my organization gives me positive feedback on my communication and guidance. I really like when my peers and staff give me critical feedback on my communications. My main reason to write anything is to communicate how, what, where, when and especially why our organization is moving forward. My other reason to write as much as I have in the past 16 months has been going back to college after starting back in 1984. I know I can improve in every aspect of writing and hopefully this course will improve my knowledge and give me better tools to
What are some possible reasons for Todd’s parents not attending the conference, answering the phone message, or acknowledging Julie’s written communication?
1. There was a time in our company that I have witnessed one of my co-workers (my best buddy) having an extra-marital affair with one of our colleagues who is also already married. Call me old fashioned, killjoy, and prude, but it relly went against my personal value of marital fidelity. I am not the one fooling around but by not acting against it or rebuking my buddy about the said incident left a void in me. I felt uneasy and as an accomplice to the negative situation. I even cover him up and make lame excuses for his wife who is also a special friend of mine. Loyalty to my buddy or loyalty to his wife is the central dilemma that I have been experiencing during those times. If I speak out about the continuing illicit affair, my co-worker
Before I began this unit, I assumed I had a firm grasp on the English language. Throughout this unit I learned that I have much to learn. After reading Communications Toolkit, I opened my mind and was surprised at how much language entails and the principles for Written Skills. The KISS principle was interesting, as I learned about formal writing, using simple, direct language, avoiding redundant phrases and clichés, writing in active rather than passive voice and avoiding ugly English. Not having had much experience in formal writing, I was made aware of the fact that written language is just as important as oral language. I learned about the different styles of writing such as reports, narratives, recounts and many more that can help express points of view,
After looking at all the written assignments I have completed for this class in particular, I definitely noticed differences and progress in my writing. With every assignment I have submitted this semester, I have noticed a progress in my writing and as well as in the delivery of my intended messages. Although explanation can be important
My goal for this course was to learn as much as I could and develop my writing skills. My goal was broad and I believe that I have learned a lot in this course and had many opportunities to develop my writing skills. But my learning will not stop with the end of this course. I will continue to learn as much as I can, as often as I can. Written communication if important, not only in academics, but in my life outside of the University. There is always something to learn.
The author of this memo assumes that Acme would benefit greatly by requiring all of their employees to take the Easy Read course. To bolster this assumption, the author cites several facts: one graduate of the course was able to read a 500-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year, he also assumes that the faster one can read the more information one can absorb in a day, moreover, this course would cost Acme only $500 per employee, which is a small amount for Acme to pay when consider the benefits. According to these evidence, the author concluds that require all of their employees to take the course will bring benefits to company. However, the assumption of the author is weak in following aspects.
‘An annual report is a comprehensive report on a company's activities throughout the preceding year. Annual reports are intended to give shareholders and other interested people information about the company's activities and financial performance.’
