As a first world country, Australia is one of the main counties that use tons and tons of electricity. 73% of Australian community uses the electricity generated from Coal and 13% of the Australian community uses the electricity produced using natural gas and only the other 14% uses renewable energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy etc. Therefore a majority of Australians use non-renewable energy sources. The total amount of energy used by the Australian community is around 226.9 billion kWh per year. Therefore, 195.134 billion kWH of energy is generated from non-renewable energy and only 31.766 billion kWH of energy is generated by renewable energy in Australia. Yes, an Australian domestic community with four kids and two adults can definitely rely on renewable energy sources and this can be done by connecting every single house to a system of electricity that is created using non-renewable energy sources. Which means the non – renewable energy stations should be located around every single town or city. Dose every single city has renewable sources around them? Yes, there are many types of non-renewable energy sources such as wind , sun, thermal heat etc. Therefore, there must be even one sort of energy source around every single town or city. As an example, a town in a low altitude can use hydro power, since the water in that area is having a high kinetic energy when it flows from the other high altitude areas to the low altitude area and also a town which is situated in a high altitude can use sunlight as the non- renewable energy source since the place with a higher altitude get direct sunlight from the sun. Therefore, there is a possibility to use renewable source for towns or areas in any altitude. Fernandez and since the electricity bill has gone up, he recalled the documentary he saw in the past that said, use non-renewable energy sources to ‘get off the grid’. How can the non-renewable energy used to ‘get off the grid’? Using renewable energy will definitely cost lesser than using non- renewable energy. However, since, the renewable energy can be only produced using the equipment such as solar panels, wind turbines, etc., the people who use non-renewable energy has to bear the cost of their equipment or the government has to bear the cost of the community’s equipment. Other than that, there won’t be any type of cost related to the usage of non-renewable energy. However, setting up renewable energy sources around cities can be a bit expensive, since the government has build renewable power station brand newly. However, that cost would be covered eventually by gaining profits from using renewable energy.
As an Australia’s major tourist city, the energy consumption of the gold coast is fairly high. In the past five years as an average, a dwelling in gold coast has uses around 23.4 KWH in the summer and 24.1KWH in the winter per day . Therefore, choosing the correct source of energy is important for the environment and humans. Renewable energy that produces electricity never runs out, causing a lower environmental impact. Solar, Biomass, Wind, Geothermal, and Hydropower energy should be used globally to produce electricity. On the other hand, producing electricity from nonrenewable energy sources can be very harmful to humans and the environment. Humans can easily be dependent on it, which may not be the best option when it comes to finance, efficiency, sustainability and more. Approximately 52% of the US electricity comes from polluting sources like natural gas, oil, nuclear, and hydropower that have a lot of disadvantages effecting the environment in a negative way.
Of course if you want solar panels or wind turbines you can have them if the city allows it, but the upfront costs can be prohibitive. You can however, sell back any surplus power to the power company, but again it has to be done the right way, and doing things the right way can be costly in many cases.
With the increasing Australia’s population the demand for reliable energy to support our power needs now and into the future is escalating, with majority of the Australia’s energy depending solely on coal power with concerns arising on whether this is the best option for Australia’s future or focus more on harnessing green renewable energy. Therefore, if using renewable energy sources will give us the luxurious of being able to have electricity, heat our homes, transport, and protect the environment, then why not use it.

One resource that is essential to produce electricity is renewable energy. Providing one’s own energy consists of utilizing solar panels, wind turbines and micro hydroelectricity. Solar panels absorb energy from the Sun to produce solar energy. A great number of people who live off the grid use solar power. Wind turbines generate electrical power from the wind and functions in the reverse manner as a fan does. Micro hydroelectricity is another source of energy, which fascinatingly “uses a source of running water, like a stream, to generate electricity” (Dunn 3). Between all three sources of renewable energy, micro hydroelectricity is the most efficient, reliable and commonly used form.
