Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university. I am not going to lie – being an avid gamer drives my fascination in computer science. The sight of fluid graphics on the screen generated by precise and swift computations captivates my eyes. Enthralled, I ponder how it all works. Subsequently, I submerged myself deep in the knowledge behind it. My passion grew further the first time I tried to dual boot my windows laptop with Linux. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? The most significant challenge that I faced is culture difference. Born in Indonesia, continuing education on America and being an international student has not been easy on me. This has been an issue for me when I leave high school early and when to a community college in Seattle. At that time, I was not even 18 years old and having difficulty when communicating with people. This challenge also taught me that sometimes, the process of overcoming a challenge is more valuable than the final result. Culture difference has affected my academic achievement as there is language barrier. For instance, listening to the teacher could be challenging with all the teacher have their unique accent that makes it unclear and with group discussion, students with similar home country will starts to talk to each other using their own language, which discouraging group discussion. It is true that talking with fellow students from the same country is more comfortable, but it’s actually preventing us from improving. To overcome this challenge, I knew that I need to step out of my comfort zone and I started to talk to students other than from my home country. I went to three different school during elementary through high school and I would have to adapt everytime. I learn the significance difference of perspective despite the relatively close distance of each school. However, despite the relatively close distance, the students were differ from each schools. Each school interact and socialize differently. The fact that it is different, I constantly adjust the way I interact and it has enable me to be socially adjust myself in most social environment. Being in different schools also encourage me to be socially engage, making new friends whenever I moved, which led me to accustomed the habit to be more initiative.
