When fabricated in accordance with military specifications, it should be able to withstand thermal processing, or retort processing, and a wide temperature range sufficient enough to prevent package damage during transportation and storage. Food packaged in a conventional can must be cooked approximately twice as long as food contained in a retort pouch, as well. To sterilize the food contained in either form of packaging, it must be brought up to approximately 245° F and kept there for a specified period of time. Retort packages have a thin profile and a high ratio of surface area to volume. Heat penetrates the food much more quickly when it only has to reach the inside of an approximately half-inch-thick mass, rather than a much larger mass in a round can.
Coloring is also applied to either the exterior or interior surface of the polyester layer. While the pouch is considered a "tough" package, it is not indestructible. The strength of the pouch and its resistance to damage comes from its tri-laminar structure. Strength of the pouch has always been an issue for the Military, and it’s difficult for some to understand that plastic can be as strong as steel, as metal cans are usually associated with strength.
Each of the three laminas has its own individual qualities that contribute to the success
In life, many people participate in various daily events and activities that help them enjoy being who they are. People may enjoy getting together with friends, going to the mall, going to an amusement park or simply finding relaxation in nature. However, a big part of everyone’s life is of course eating and many people find pleasure in doing so. Eating is a very enjoyable and delectable must for everyone but should be done so, like everything in life, in a smart and intelligent way. Being smart and perceptive when eating is a large part of nutrition.
Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include free trips around the sun, not to mention free oxygen. Many things aren’t free to people which is why my mom prompted me to get a job. She got tired of investing her hard-earned money on my lavish needs. My first real job was a cashier for Chick-fil-A, in a food court at a local mall. Chick-fill-A is often merited for their service and food, but is still considered fast-food. As much as I dreaded working in fast food, it taught a considerable number of life lessons. Most importantly, Working at Chick-fil-A not only allowed me to understand personal self-growth through circumstances, but to value it.
In Michael Pollan’s essay “Escape from the Western Diet,” he informs Americans about the western diet and believes they need to escape from it. The reason Americans should escape the western diet is to avoid the harmful effects associated with it such as “western diseases” (Pollan, 434). To support his view on the issue, Pollan describes factors of the western diet that dictate what Americans believe they should eat. These factors include scientists with their theories of nutritionism, the food industry supporting the theories by making products, and the health industry making medication to support those same theories. Overall, Pollan feels that in order to escape this diet, people need to get the idea of it out of their heads. In turn he
Do you like eating at restaurants and fast food places? Almost everyone does, but do we really know how healthy and unhealthy the food we are eating is? Labeling food menu choices should become a law. As stated in passage "Label the Meals", one thing both arguments can agree on is that healthy people are happier and more productive. If labeling meals in food places taken upon, it is a way of helping people take charge of their well-being. People should have the obligation of viewing the nutrition information whether the food is nutritious or not.
One of the most unhealthy diets in the world is that of an American. It is made up of processed foods and a good amount of television. America easily has the most fast food restaurants in the entire world. Leave it to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King or any other fast-food restaurant to serve extremely cheap and even unhealthier food at any time during the day or night. ”It tastes good so why not?” That seems to be the question many people are asking now-a-days. Because it is so easily accessible and processed, it is made to be very tasty and extremely unhealthy. Many Americans find his or herself indulging on the these fatty foods of America on a day-to-day basis. While it may taste good at the time, it has a terrible effect on your body

Food Inc. opens in an American supermarket and draws attention to the unnatural nature of year-round tomatoes and boneless meat. It pulls aside the curtain that is concealing the truth about food from the consumer. After the brief intro, the movie shifts its focus to the topic of fast food and its impact on the meat industries. Fast food virtually started with McDonald’s. When they decided to simplify their menu and hire employees that repeated one task over and over for minimum wage, the result was the fast food phenomenon that swept the United States, and then the world. Today, McDonald’s is the largest purchaser of beef and potatoes in the United States, and is one of the largest purchasers of pork, chicken, tomatoes, and apples. Though
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about fast food in the United States and its effects.
The Making of a Chef was a fascinating book that alternated my perspective on cooking giving me a clearer view of working through a culinary program. Michael Ruhlman gave readers a glimpse of life within the Culinary Institute of America, which is the most critical culinary school in the United States. Nothing is left to instinct or assumed information, everything is shown whether it is with culinary maths or precisely how you lay out unresolved issues for the ideal stock. Everything was just striven to be excellent, not good, nor O.K., but miraculously perfect.
Food -- it is a necessity. There is not one person who does not think about it on a daily basis. For a college student, the quality of food available is not always to the highest of standards. Many students can not afford to buy expensive food or eat out on a regular basis. Many times their only option left is to eat from their school’s dining halls.
Good packages can help preserve food and prolong its shelf life during storage, transport retailing and consumption.
In today’s society, most people plan their daily meals around their busy schedules. Food plays an important role in our lives and most just rely on fast food because it is quicker and easier. However, devouring fast food is one of the worst choices you can make. In order to maintain proper health and prevent numerous illnesses and diseases, consuming healthy homemade meals is definitely a more ideal choice. According to a recent study, “when people cook most of their meals at home, they consume fewer carbohydrates, less sugar and less fat than those who cook less or not at all – even if they are not trying to lose weight” (Wolfson). Because many people work full time and get home very late, people continue to eat it without being aware of how unhealthy it is for you and the health risks that it can eventually bring on. Based on the demand for quality food choices of today’s generation, it is important to compare and contrast the effects of preparing healthy, homemade meals versus relying on fast food restaurants for daily eats.
