The Importance Of Reading And Reading

There are many important skills that students must learn in school. One important skill would be how to read and write and the other would be how to think critically. These two skills are very important in different ways. However, they are both important skills that will help individuals throughout different times in their lives. The skill of reading and writing can open a door into a new world, a world filled with words. Critical thinking can help with having to make life changing decisions or it can help find a solution to a difficult issue. The skills reading and writing and critical thinking are all important skills in their own way, and they are both important during many aspects of life.

There is nothing that has had a bigger impact on my life than learning to read and write. I remember being in elementary school and the teacher emphasizing that reading and writing is fundamental. I didn’t know what that meant or why she kept repeating that over again. As I started to grow older I slowly understood a part of it. It began by observing my father every morning, he would buy the Spanish newspaper and would read it. One day I asked him if I could read the newspaper, I knew I couldn’t read Spanish but I was curious. I recall breaking up the words and putting them together like I learned in school. To only realize that Spanish is phonetically written. From there I learned that there is an important connection in Spanish and English that is important just as reading and writing in my life. There are many types of outcomes that I gained from learning to read and write. Such as being able to expand my knowledge, observing how communication is interacted in reading and writing, and appreciating the creativity of it.

If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.

Learning how to read and write was a challenging task for me as a kid. I believe I couldn’t read until the second grade and that was embarrassing. Being a slow learner made me insecure, which hindered me from building the confidence I needed to succeed and get pass identifying with having a disability. Instead, I was enrolled into a special ed class that I had to leave my regular class to attend. During my special ed class all I could think about was how I couldn’t wait to get back to my regular class so I didn’t have to tell any of my classmate where I was. Therefore, my focus unfortunately wasn’t on learning, like it should have been!

When you read books and you read often, you obtain the ability to imagine what you are reading. You can picture any scene and hear what you think their voices sound like. You can smells and hear the things they describe. When you read a book it is like you are there with the characters in the story. When you are reading you become attached to the main character. When they cry, you cry. When they are angry, so are you. The character´s story becomes like another life.

“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are,” (Cooley). Reading has impacted us in many ways throughout our lives. Often time’s books give people different perspectives on their lives. People with high stress levels often find comfort in reading books to take their mind off of their concerns. Sometimes, people just need to take a step back from their life and relax for a while; therefore, reading is a great tool. Reading all kinds of books has also helped me become a better writer. There are many different books that have impacted me over the years.

Learning how to read and right I remember it like it was yesterday. I thought I would never be able to read and write as well as I wanted to do. I was homeschooled because I was on the gymnastics competition team, I was the youngest on there for a while. I used to train five to six hours a day, there for all the girls homeschooled but we all had to bring in our work on Friday to talk about what we had do and learned that week. I used to dread Fridays because I always felt behind because I was the youngest all the girls used to tell me that they were the same as me when they were my age. I rarely spend any time focusing on one specific task. My mind often wonders and I start doing multiple things at one time. In one day I multi-task for roughly 7-8 hours. It is pretty easy for to turn to non-computer activities if I'm not around people. When I am doing an activity I do not want to do, such as read or doing homework, I will take breaks. The most common task I try solely concentrating on is reading and even then I am constantly taking breaks. Whether its to eat, listen to music, go on social media, or watch television. Eventually those 10-15 minute breaks turn into hours. When I'm not trying to avoid reading I find myself thinking of other things and not comprehending what I'm reading because of it. I will not read for pleasure

There have been a few bad, but many good influences that have me lead to love reading the way I do. For a child to have a good foundation and have a better understanding of reading and writing I believe it should be introduced at an early age. I was lucky to have a family that read to me and helped me with reading from the time I was born. Unfortunately I spent a year struggling, and I remember to this day the hard time I had that also helped me become a better reader soon after.

Books give readers unlimited freedom to perceive, or to look at something in a certain way. A reader is free to arrange the details of characters, settings, and props in a story or drama any way they like. You and a friend may have completely different images in mind when you think of certain characters.

There are few books that can transport us to another world, truly make us feel for the characters and evoke a sense of loss when the characters are stripped viscously from the pages. Though a book does not have to take away a beloved character to make you feel, it tends to evoke more feeling when you truly feel like you lost a part of yourself when the character disappeared. Books that we can relate to are the ones that are the most provocative, ones that involve us in the character’s story and truly arouse a connection to an experience, whether it be recent or 10 years ago. Reading and writing are two of the most important tools in my life, because without them I would not have an education. They form the basis of a class; for example, completing a lab in chemistry would not be possible without following a written lab procedure. These two skills are taught at such a young age, and as education advances students must continue to strive to reach a higher level. I can remember in elementary school, we were always pushed to reach the next reading level once we had successfully mastered the one we were on. Whether it is from a book to a poem, there will always be a way that it helps out your school performance. Reading and writing in general only helps absorb information, and enhance leisure or school related writing tasks. It has also made life itself so much easier because reading and writing are so beneficial for school and for life. How much you read and write today, will somehow affect your future job, family, position, or even your salary.
