Martin Luther was born in Germany on November 10th, 1483. He was the son of Hans and Margarette Luther. In 1501 Martin entered the University of Erurt where he received a master of arts degree. He got a degree in grammar, logic, rhetoric and metaphysics which seemed as if he was becoming a lawyer. In 1505, Luther went through some life changing experiences which led him on a new course. He got caught in a storm where he plead out to St. Anne, "Save me, St. Anne, and I have become a monk." Moments after, the stormed calmed and he was then saved. Historians believe this caused an idea to formulate in his mind. Luther 's father was greatly disappointed by the difficult decision Luther made of becoming a monk. A monk is a …show more content…

He returned to Germany where he enrolled in the University of Wittenberg in an attempt to put an end to his spiritual turmoil. He did extremely well in his studies. He received a doctorate in which he became a professor of theology at the university. As Martin Luther went through his studies of scripture, he finally gained religious enlightenment. He began in 1513 preparing lectures. He read Psalm 22, which talks about the cry of mercy that Christ called out for as he hung there on the cross. Two years later while preparing for a lecture on Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, he read,” The just will live by faith.” He thought about the statement for a while, when he realized spiritual salvation was not to fear God or to be enslaved by religious dogma but to believe that faith alone will bring salvation. This is when Martin made a huge change in his life and started a revolution. A revolution is a overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed. In 1517, an announcement was made by the Pope, Leo X, of a new round of indulgences to help build St. Peter’s Basilica. St. Peter’s Basilica is a Roman Catholic Church basilica in the Vatican City. It was built in the 16th century on the site of a structure erected by Constantine on the supposed site of St. Peter’s crucifixion, it is the largest christian church. Martin was not at all
