Eleanor was a 22 year old single mother whose parents were very religious and humiliated of Ted. After Ted was born, Eleanor brought him to her parents who lived in Philadelphia, where he was raised as the adoptive son of his grandparents. This led to his real mom being called his sister. A few years later, Eleanor and Ted moved to Tacoma, Washington where Eleanor married Johnnie Bundy in 1951. As far as everyone knew, Ted grew up in a working-class, Christian family that cared and loved for him.
Ted was a shy, bright kid who did very well in school, but not as much with his peers. Around the age of three Ted had caught an interest in knives and as a teenager he would walk around at night looking for discarded pornography or open windows to view women through. Ted decided to be his own lawyer and during a trip to the Courthouse library, he jumped out of a window and made his first escape. He was captured eight days later. Then in December of 1975, Ted climbed out of a hole in the ceiling of his cell that he created. He lost 30 pounds just to fit through the hole and it took the police 15 hours to find out that Ted was missing from his cell. By then Ted was long gone, heading to Tallahassee, Florida. On January 14, 1978, Ted broke into the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University. He attacked four young students, killing two of them. He was a part of the freedom club, which was an anarchist terror group that held a series of bombings on scientists and technologists between the 1970s to 1990s. Ted’s goal was to spread his anti-industrial ideals. The Unabomber chose his targets mostly by class, but it didn't affect him negatively when innocent people were injured or killed. Ted didn’t really have a specific class: he targeted scientists, professors, and anyone who was helping the technology movement. Ted lived in isolation, with only a few penpals who didn’t know of what he did, so it wasn’t hard for Ted to make the bombs and only go into town for supplies and stamps. He also kept a coded notebook that had his plans for the future as well as many notes, journals and detailed synopsis of his attacks and what he thought of

Neither parents had any history of mental illness, despite his father committing suicide. Due to Ted’s inability to socialize, he was prevented from having any type of social support outside of the family. During his childhood years it was noted by Dr. Johnson, that

On a Sunday morning in 2000, Brenton Butler went from being a fifteen-year old high school student to a suspected criminal being held in a ten by ten room. The police department in Jacksonville, Florida were convinced that he was their murderer because of his appearance, and more importantly because he was chosen. Ted Bundy was born as Theodore Robert Cowell on November 24, 1946 in Burlington, Vermont. He was the son of Louise Cowell, who gave birth to Ted at a home for unwed mothers because she had conceived him out of wedlock. With Ted’s father out of the picture, his mother brought him to Philadelphia to be raised by her parents. To hide their daughter’s illegitimate son, Ted was raised to believe that his grandparents were his parents, and that his mother was his sister. Shortly after giving birth, Louise moved to Washington and later met Johnnie Bundy. Nobody knows exactly how Ted discovered his legitimacy, but when he discovered who he was, he was devastated and harbored resentment towards his mother. Louise later married Johnnie Bundy and had several more children. Ted then carried his last name. Despite admiring his grandfather, Ted’s family had many issues. Ted’s grandmother suffered from severe depression and evidently became mentally unstable. Rumors had aroused that Ted’s grandfather had molested his daughter and was his biological father. No solid evidence has been brought to prove the allegations but Ted’s grandfather, Samuel Cowell, was described as hateful, violent, and ultimately a bully who had a temper and a lust for pornography.
