The novel was actually part of a trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The story begins by introducing you to our main character Katniss Everdeen who lives in a world run by the Capitol where President Snow resides and has enforced a form of martial law on all 13 districts. Every year the Capitol hosts their annual Hunger Games which is a form of entertainment for the Capitol. Out of every district two tributes, one boy and one girl will be picked to participate in the Hunger Games which is a battle to the death. Whichever tribute manages to survive till the end will be rewarded by getting to stay in the capitol and their district will be given more food and supplies. The reason Katniss becomes a part of the games is because her little sister prim is chosen during the reaping to be the tribute so Katniss hearing her sisters name volunteers as tribute to save her sisters life but she tries to win the games for her district and to provide for them. The only problem is she finds it hard to murder the other tributes because they are all so young and she doesn’t see why she must kill them for the Capitols entertainment.
Social stratification is a concept used within sociology that explains the divisions and social inequalities of large groups of people within a particular society. The Hunger Games (2012) is a film that demonstrates this through amplifying how the power of the rich members in a polarised society are taking control of the poor and separating them in different districts which create specific social rankings. This essay will use the perspective of conflict theory to examine how Australian society is also effected by social stratification and therefore divided in social classes which effects their access to social equalities.

Most people have heard of the Hunger Games, but don’t know the true meaning. People say it’s a book (or movie) about innocent people getting slaughtered. It may look like that but there is so much more depth. When authors write books, they add their perspective and beliefs. It could be about government, religion and many more controversial topics. In the Hunger Games, the author Suzanne Collins shows what she thinks about government. She does this by relating the Hunger Games to the gladiators and Ancient Roman times. Even the names of characters relate. Hunger Games may not be a sweet and innocent book, but there is a good lesson behind all the violence.

This new nation, Panem, is viewed as a utopia by residents of the Capitol, but it is instead seen as a harsh war zone by many of the Capitol’s twelve outlying districts. Years ago, the districts attempted a rebellion against the Capitol, but unfortunately failed, resulting in many deaths and extreme penalties. As punishment for this war, the Capitol requires one male and one female tribute from each district to participate in the Hunger Games, an annual event that requires the twenty-four tributes to fight to the death until one tribute remains and is crowned the

When books are turned into movies, it is very usual to see major changes in the movie. Some producers add their own creativity to make the movie more appealing, this results in failing to represent the authors details and thoughts. Gary Ross, Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray are the two screenwriter who interpreted The Hunger Games novel into a movie. Since the adaptation of the movie was not so similar to the novel, Suzanne Collins most likely has questioned some changes that were done to the writing. Even though some scenes from the book are not even included in the movie, the movie has done a great job at becoming successful. There have also been major changes on the characters. There have been changes made to Peeta Melarck’s physical appearance and emotional behavior. Because of the timing of the movie, the producers have put an emphasis on Peeta’s feminine side by making him shorter, skinnier than Katniss, and by also making his behavior whinier. These differences have definitely impacted how the audience feels about Peeta’s character.
