Annotated Bibliography: Influence of Social Media This annotated bibliography investigates several sources that discuss the positive and negative effects of social media usage in order to present an argument on the influence of social media on society. My position is that overall social media can have a negative impact if used irresponsibly, however given the prevalence of social media in today’s society, it is impossible to avoid. Including a comprehensive literature review, she comes to conclusions about how social media has had a profound effect on the way people interact, study, and obtain information. This study is useful, even though it focuses on a particular group of people, because it includes a literature review of many of the existing studies that have been done on social media usage and the effects caused from its use. His main points are the negative effects of false connections, decreased productivity, privacy issues, and cyber-bullying. While he points out a few positive points, the article is mainly geared toward the negative aspects of social media. On the positive side, she points out that social media connects people, allows all voices to be heard, allows for work to be done from anywhere, and connects business to their customers. On the negative side, she argues that social media reduces productivity, can be addictive, reduces privacy, and allows for people to criticize everything. Her conclusion is that it is difficult to tell if social media is actually positive or negative as evidence exists for both sides of the argument.
