Comparing student learning: Traditional Learning vs. Online Learning Which type of learning is better, traditional or online? As we all know, attending a college or university is nothing new. For the longest time the biggest issues for students were which school to attend and how to pay for it. However, with new and constant developments in modern technology these students are faced with a new problem: which type of learning is better, traditional or online? Students are not the only ones dealing with this dilemma; schools are also presented with the same issue. Not only do schools have to be concerned with which type of learning is best for their students but also which type of

I feel that the education you receive from online learning is the same material that is taught in the traditional way. This material is just presented in a way that is better for modern students. Traditional learners however, may also lack the skills to be effective learners. For students who take traditional classes over online classes may lack motivation to be independent learners. In spite of these differences it is safe to assume that both sides want students to enjoy and excel in school no matter if it is traditional or online. Both sides are obviously concerned about the importance of education. Otherwise the argument over whether traditional or online learning is better would not be a debatable issue. There are others, like myself, who feel that online learning is better. The supporters of this back their claim by stating that online classes can be more beneficial for teachers and students. For example, fewer distractions in a classroom like other students disrupting class. Students can come into class late after the teacher has already started class and cause a disruption or talk during the class. With online classes the student can control their environment. Also, a teacher can provide in writing just the basic information a student needs for an assignment. This way there is less of a chance for the student to get confused on the assignment when the topic
Some people doubt the efficiency of online courses since they think it’s harder to focus on online courses such as videos than normal courses. There is a report published from The U.S. Department of Educational and Riesinger (2017) states “this study said that classes which include online components showed better learning outcomes than those with purely face-to-face instruction.” It means that it’s doesn’t matter whether people learn from online or not. If students really want to learn, they will find some ways or try to adapt different types of courses. On the other hand, there are other people think online courses are individual class which is lack of communication. But, this question is gradually solved by platform or chatroom that students can discuss or ask questions. Therefore, online courses have more advantages than
There are no facts supporting the statement that “you cannot learn as much online as in a classroom”. Everyone has their own needs for learning some people do better online in the privacy of their home where there are not any distractions, and some people need have face to face interaction in order to learn. Some people who are in online classes may learn more than those who are in a classroom. No matter what you choose the learning part is up to you and how committed you are to furthering your education.
The authors analyzed statistics of online learning to determine what they mean. They looked at the growth of online options in institutions. They also compared online learning with traditional learning to determine if it was as effective.
Learning in a traditional classroom requires you to get up and get ready by a certain time. You must find a sitter, if needed, as well as find a job that will work around you school schedule. If you have a doctor appointment or need to do something important, you must miss class for that. You have to find the extra time to do your makeup work and anything that you missed. Learning in an online setting, lets you work on the everyday task. If you have a job that requires you to work long hours; you can come home after a day of work and go online to start your class. You have the options to work ahead a little on the online course, compared to a traditional class where you can only work on assignments handed out at the time. Online classes give
Online school normally allows students to view things as many times as they need while at traditional school, students can only review the thing they are learning once. Also, if students at an online school get busy with anything else, or need longer to do an assignment than what amount of time would be given at a traditional school, then they can still finish the assignment as well as they could with their extra time. Also, students can work at their own pace to get work done. Some students need more time to get some things done. If they do online school, they will have almost as much time as they need throughout a certain amount of time. Students can review anything they need to as many times as they need to fully comprehend what they are learning. Some students need to view things many times to fully
I chose to discuss Online Learning vs. Traditional Learning for this final project. Since 1999, the debate on the differences and similarities between traditional and online learning has been ongoing. Notably, this was the time when institutes began to use internet as a way of conveying distant education. Despite the differences that are there, it is worth noting that they are being narrowed down since technology is emerging prevalently. These facts beg the question; how do the two learning formats differ and what can one expect during transition to eLearning? Before seeking answers to this question, it is worth mentioning that I chose this topic because even though I am currently taking online classes, I wanted to research and learn more about the different benefits of online learning. Also, I am interested in researching on the major differences between online learning and traditional learning.
Imagine this: A student wakes up, eager to start their day of school. They eat breakfast and get dressed and then walk across their house to their computer where they log on and start their school day. Although this may seem like a very futuristic way to do school, it is a reality for many students across the United States. Although the benefits and downfalls of this idea are almost even, it is still being explored and researched. Supporters of this idea say that students could learn different things not usually offered in a classroom, a computer can customize to students’ needs better, and online classes cost less. The other side of the argument references John F. Kennedy’s quote,
First, they might not be as effective as regular school.Online courses are not being monitored closely enough by the government. This means they could not be doing their work or they could be cheating. Studies that show online learning is as effective are not reliable. The results show for only some classes taken
When you learn in an online classroom you have the flexibility, and convenience of when you are able do your work before its due date. In some online class you have the opportunity to go at your own pace just as long as the work is submitted at the last day of the class. Online learning is good for the adults that have busy schedules such as children, wives or husbands, and busy work schedules.Online learning do have its down falls when it comes to communication. For some students its hardier for them to learn on their own. Even though the teachers give you the tools to succeed its up to the student to take the time out, and understand the material. You do not have the experience of that one on one time like you would in the traditional
I have been fortunate enough to attend college in a traditional classroom setting as well as an online setting; I can say for my academic journey the online setting better suited my learning type. When I graduated high school I went to a traditional university, I did not do well and ended withdrawing and failing classes. I attended an online university a few years later and found that it was a lot more conducive to my learning style.
In today’s technological age, there are many choices for Americans of all ages to attend college. A student may choose to attend a traditional college or to continue their education through one of the many online programs available. Both online and traditional educations offer a quality education to students, but differ in financial needs, scheduling flexibility, learning styles and career choice. Any person looking to further their education needs to do extensive research to determine
Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don’t have any fee or if some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university. This is the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning. By using online education students can
With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance one another instead of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating will be far more successful.
Distance learning is not the best way to receive instruction. It could be that my bias is for traditional classroom learning because that is all that I have know all my life. I cannot fully comprehend how effective can learning over the Internet truly be. However, at the same time we have to focus on why some students decide that taking a web course is the best choice for them.
Education has undergone significant changes because of the development of information and communication technology over the 21st century (Lin & Jou, 2012:2). As a convenient and inexpensive way to gain knowledge while pursuing higher education, online learning, a form of training or teaching that takes place over the Internet, has been considered as an alternative to traditional classroom learning (Zhang et al, 2004). This essay will argue that even though online learning has benefit such as flexibility which could outweigh traditional learning, traditional classroom learning might still not be entirely replaced. This essay will discuss positive and negative aspects of online and traditional learning in terms of four criteria:
