Rock music has been very popular for years. Now-a-day’s rock has blended in with the other types of popular music like pop, country and rap. However, none of these other types of music seemed to have as big an impact on people that rock did. Rock ‘n roll, basically controlled the most of the twentieth century, with an entire era of children, teens and young adults to follow. But, where did rock come from? It has to do with the beats, melody, elements and rhythm that make up the music. Those are the things that separate music from noise. When it comes to rock and jazz in specific; they are influenced by different properties around them. Even though jazz and rock are inspired by different things; they are still more alike than to any other type of music. However, they share one distinct difference. In jazz, it uses a shuffle rhythm and rock does not (Kajanova 13). “What that means is that the same rhythmic values in rock are used in subtle shifts and digressions to enhance the relax feel of the music; along with an essence and easiness, that’s why jazz and rock are different” (Kajanova 13). Musical ideas of rock and jazz came from components that came from European folk and stylized dances that were changed into country music. From there it was changed into rhythm and blues and jazz, and lastly it was imported into rock
As a result cultural industries saw fit to move in and make profit from this reality by offering a form of escapism through music. Music mainly Rhythm and Blues was expressing the experiences of young teenagers. Teenagers no longer upheld the values and message that their parents and schools were promoting. This created conflict between the cultural industries who were promoting the pleasures of consumption with the traditional view of educational demands. Rock ‘n’ Roll began and evolved around the late 1940’s and 1950’s time frame. There were many groups that participated in the creation and origin of Rock ‘n’ Roll, however the two primary groups were rhythm and blues and country music. “The origins of rock ‘n’ roll are often described in a way that could be represented by an algebraic formula: r&b + c&w = r&r” (Garofalo & Waksman, 2016, p. 56). While the formula is rather simplistic, it ignores the many groups of individuals, social and cultural influences that impacted the formation of Rock ‘n’ Roll. As Rolling Stone’s Robert Palmer (1990) noted:
Rock ‘n’ roll music has widely influenced music and society and continues to do so today. Rock ‘n’ roll emerged in the 1950’s a time where whites and blacks were heavily segregated. Rock and roll music not only changed the nation’s current musical norms, but indicated the joy of the emerging youth culture of the generation. It influenced artists whether black or white to come into the mainstream music. Famous artists still remembered today also influenced rock and roll. Those pioneers helped change the musical norms and the overall history of music. White rock ‘n’ rollers helped build a ladder for black artists to come into the scene. It was certain that rock ‘n’ roll made it possible for greater acceptance, appreciation and a wider

It was also influenced by gospel, country, western, and traditional folk music. With the combinations of all of these genres of music, that help to create this new style of music excited a worldwide generation of young listeners. Even though it had the attention of young listeners it started to upset the already established social, cultural and musical authorities. With this new music style coming into full affect along with new dances and people having voicing out their own opinion caused a lot of turmoil. Many people began to question this new genre of music and labeled it as the devil music while other loved it and couldn’t help but dance

Throughout the many genres that exist in the world, there are always genres that have significant differences from each other. Although they may both stem from another genre, or one might be a derivative of the other, there is always more than one noteworthy characteristic of each genre that sets them completely apart from one another.
